Yesterday was the last day of spring AND International Yoga Day, so we invite you to join BAC occupational therapist Arielle () for a SPRING themed yoga class! Practice yoga breathing and poses for strong bodies & minds, while also prioritizing focus, connection, rest, and kind hearts. Partner activities are included for the whole family!
This class pairs an emotion (“I feel…”) and a mantra (“I am…”) with each yoga pose to build social-emotional awareness and resilience.
🌳 Tree Pose increases focus and balance: “I feel steady...” “I am balanced.”
🕊 Bird Pose improves coordination and balance: “I feel happy...” “I am calm.”
🐰 Bunny Breathing & Bunny Hops make energy and improve focus: “I feel curious...” “I am smart.”
🐢 Turtle Pose calms the body and relaxes the sensory systems: “I feel shy…” “I am safe.”
🐝 Bumblebee Breathing increases self-awareness and focus: “I feel busy…” “I am focused.”
🌷 Flower Pose increases body awareness and core strength.

Fitness Friday: Superhero Training 🦸
This started as a PT exercise demo and somehow turned into Carolyn’s superhero origin story 💥🦸♀️
This exercise - often called “superman,” but officially called "prone extension" - targets the muscles along the back, glutes, and shoulders, helping to build postural strength, core stability, and body awareness. It’s a great way to work on the extensor muscles that help us sit upright, maintain posture, and support everyday movement.
To try it: lie on your stomach and gently lift your arms, chest, and legs off the floor while keeping your neck relaxed. Hold for as long as possible, then slowly lower back down.
For even more fun ...
🔴 Add a countdown before takeoff
🟡 Pretend to fly over mountains on a rescue mission to save stuffed animals
🔵 Pair it with a costume! (highly recommended 👌)
We're not saying prone extension turns you into a superhero…but we’re also not NOT saying that 🤷♀️ Try it at home!

June is National Scoliosis Awareness Month! Did you know that the Boston Ability Center offers treatment for scoliosis?
🔴 The Barcelona Scoliosis Physical Therapy School (BSPTS) Rigo Concept is a leading, international conservative treatment for scoliosis based on the Schroth Method.
🟡 Rigo Concept falls under the category of Physiotherapeutic Scoliosis-Specific Exercises (PSSE), which is an evidence-based intervention to manage scoliosis.
🔵 Rigo Concept focuses on teaching three-dimensional spine stabilization exercises specific for different curve types of scoliosis and kyphosis to patients and their families. These exercises aim to decrease the risk of curve progression, improve postural awareness, reduce pain, increase strength, and improve breathing and body mechanics.

School-based therapy and outpatient therapy can work beautifully together - they just serve different purposes ✨
We deeply value school-based clinicians and the important work they do. In the school setting, therapy supports a child’s access to education: helping kids participate in the classroom, meet school-based goals, etc.
At the Boston Ability Center, therapy can look a little different. Our PT, OT, SLP, and feeding sessions are 1:1, individualized, and designed around your child’s unique strengths, challenges, and everyday life - including, but not limited to, the school day!
With dedicated 45-minute sessions, we’re often able to target additional goals that may not be the focus in a school setting - whether that's picky eating, self-care skills (problem-solving morning routines, bedtime routines, and everything in between), sensory processing and self-regulation skills, and so much more.
One doesn’t replace the other - in many cases, they complement each other!
And with summer around the corner, it’s a great time to keep building momentum. While school services may pause, progress doesn’t have to. Consistent support over the summer can help children continue developing skills, confidence, and independence in meaningful ways.
Interested in learning whether outpatient PT, OT, SLP, and/or feeding therapy at BAC could support your child’s goals? Reach out! We’re happy to talk through it. 781-239-0100 or [email protected]
