Via a special source I was able to obtain this exceptional lilac. The cuts were close to the root ball and provides some excellent color and grain patterns. www.pensbypoppy.com

Here's another new material style from my shop - "circuit board". The circuit board was captured in a clear acrylic. I then turned it to a shape that I liked, layered some CA glue and then polished to a glass-like finish. The top is a matching green/gold acrylic. Thanks for looking. Poppy

Something a little different but still in the "pen" world. This is a cue stick pen. Was fun to make but challenging. It has a rollerball refill and writes very smooth. Upper section is a highly figured black walnut and the lower section is ivory (faux of course). Overall length - 8 1/4". Thanks for looking.

Lignum Vitae (Guaiacum officinale and G. sanctum) has a Janka Hardness rating of 4,390 lb which puts this wood at the highest level of hardness is the world. Found the wood easier to turn than I thought but was a bit oily. Used acetone to clean the turned surface prior to applying GluBoost CA finish. I'm happy with the color and grain. Vertex Supreme is the name of the metal set. The magnetic cap posts on the finial of the pen.

The larch tree (AKA tamarak) is a deciduous tree with short needles and cones such that it appears to be an evergreen tree. The short green needles turn brown and drop in the fall. The cones also drop annually. When cut the wood appears to be similar to pine wood. I had a piece with a large knot and wondered what it would look like. Was concerned that the knot would pop out when turned but some ultra thin CA glue kept that from happening. In addition tot he knot I like the light to dark shades in the wood.

I enjoy turning all species of wood but some just do a job on me with the results. This is a pen from a lilac bush. The flowers were purple and that color is natural in the wood. Keeps me coming back time and time again!!!

Interesting project with nylon fiber on this magnetic snap cap rollerball pen. The feel of the pen is quite interesting vs. a glass-smooth wood or acrylic pen. The rollerball ink is extremely smooth to the touch on paper and instant drying. Thanks, Harry "Poppy" Noel
