September holds a fascinating piece of library history: it is the official Library Card Sign-up Month! To celebrate, here is a wild fact about late library books.

The official Guinness World Record for the most overdue library book in history belongs to a book borrowed from Sidney Sussex College at the University of Cambridge. It was checked out in 1668 and finally returned 288 years later in 1956. Thankfully, the university waived the late fee—which would have totaled thousands of dollars!

BTW, your Webster Groves Public Library is fine free. You will never be charged a fine for an overdue book, as long as it is eventually returned.

This Week, September 15-19th at WGPL! The non video version.
