“This photo from 1948 shows the Webster Groves Public Library crowded with kids. Kind of like it will be this month with our Summer Reading programs kicking off. But these kiddos weren’t at 301 E. Lockwood Ave. They were enjoying our previous library building which opened in 1928, the first of its kind in St. Louis County.”

At the library this year we’re marking 75 years in our building on Lockwood. But we’re also celebrating much deeper historical ties to our community. 301 E. Lockwood is the library’s 5th location since a free public reading room was established in the 1880s in a ramshackle building located where you can now enjoy fine Italian dining. If you’d like to learn more about the 140+ year tradition of a public library in Webster Groves, stop by our meeting room June 8th.
