This is an essential part of nurturing❤️
Nobody really prepares you for this part…
In the early months, your baby doesn’t see you as separate from them yet.
Your voice, your smell, your heartbeat, your warmth… it all registers as one shared safe place.
Not in a clingy way. Not in a “they’re too attached” way.
In a biological, brain still wiring itself kind of way.
Their little brain is still figuring out where they end and the world begins.
So when you step away… even for a minute… it can feel bigger to them than it does to us.
It’s not manipulation.
It’s not “spoiling” them.
It’s their nervous system saying, “Where did my safety go?”
And every time you respond… every time you pick them up, comfort them, come back…
you’re literally helping build the part of their brain that will one day let them feel secure without you.
That independence everyone talks about?
It doesn’t come from distance.
It comes from being deeply, consistently, safely connected first.

This is something we forget! If humanity is to survive, it is everything .
In some parts of the world, no one asks, “Are you going to breastfeed?”
Because there is no backup plan. No aisle of options. No second choice.
There is just a mother… and her body doing exactly what it was designed to do.
Feeding. Protecting. Keeping her baby alive.
What some people debate… others depend on to survive.
And it’s not just enough.
It’s everything.

Be observant and supportive for
your postpartum friends🤗
Seriously, it could be the difference between noticing the signs or missing her quiet cry for help.
Breastfeeding isn't just feeding.
It’s hormonal. Emotional. Relentless.
And for some women, it can be the pressure point where postpartum anxiety or depression shows up first.
She might seem “fine.”
But also feel trapped.
Or cry during letdowns.
Or carry a guilt she can’t explain.
Or feel rage that scares her.
Or just… not feel like herself.
Knowing what to look for doesn’t make you dramatic.
It makes you someone she can lean on.

This is an important fact.
Breastfeeding past one isn’t actually as rare as you might think, it’s just become so sexualised in Western culture.
Globally, around 70% of babies are still breastfeeding at 12 months.
At two years old, nearly half of children worldwide are still nursing.
In many parts of the world, extended breastfeeding isn’t unusual.
It’s expected.
So if you’re still feeding past one and feel like you’re the only one… you’re not.
What feels “long” in some Western countries is completely normal globally.
Your milk didn’t suddenly lose its value at 12 months.
Your body didn’t become inappropriate.
Your child didn’t become “too old.”
Zoom out.
You’re not outside the norm — even if it feels like it.
You’re part of the global majority.
Millions of mamas right now are still breastfeeding their toddlers, and we are all doing our best.
If you’re still breastfeeding past one, you’re not alone 🥰
Did you know this was the global norm?
Have any of you made your own concoctions from your breastmilk?
Would love for you to share!

Here is how Texas law protects breastfeeding in public.
Chapter 165 of the Texas Health and Safety Code:
A mother is entitled to breastfeed her baby or express breastmilk in any location in which the mother is otherwise allowed to be.
Texas Government Code Chapter 619:
All Texas public employers must provide a policy that supports breastfeeding. They must also provide a private place for lactating employees to pump (that is not a multiple user bathroom) and break time to do so. The law also prohibits employers from suspending, firing, or discriminating against employees who use these rights.

This is something Inhear alot! A reminder that bonding happens in many different ways.
“Just give the baby a bottle so dad can feed and bond too.”
I hear this one a lot and while it’s usually said with good intentions, bonding isn’t limited to feeding.
Dads bond in so many other meaningful ways.
Skin to skin.
Rocking them to sleep.
Bath time.
Soothing cries.
Showing up, every single day.
For our family, exclusively breastfeeding is what works best and that choice doesn’t take anything away from dad’s bond. Love isn’t measured in ounces.
Feeding is just one small part of parenting.
Connection happens in a hundred different moments.
Every family is different. This is what works for ours, and that’s enough.
