At Great Smoky Mountains National Park, we have deciduous trees and conifer trees. Deciduous trees lose their leaves in the fall, but they are very much alive, so please don't break their branches off. The green trees you see are evergreen cone-bearing seed plants (conifers) such as pines and hemlocks.

Haywood County Arts Council Offers a Month Full of Events in September - The Laurel of Asheville The Haywood County Arts Council (HCAC) offers a variety of art events in September including the inaugural Art in the Park at Sorrells Park in Canton September 21, and the Haywood County Studio Tour September 23-24.

Join us for the first Junior Ranger Angler Passport to Fishing Clinic at Oconaluftee Visitor Center on Friday, August 4th!

Try your hand at casting a line for local trout and earn your Junior Ranger Angler badge. Learn about fish conservation and ethical angling practices at fun, interactive stations from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. to complete your angler passport. The first 25 families will receive a free fishing pole!

TN or NC fishing license is required for participants 16 and older.
