Don’t read your Bible in a year…. Instead try this!

Read the Bible slow, section by section, paragraph by paragraph, to understand what God is saying through His Word. A lot of times we read through the Bible as fast as we can because we want to check the box and make sure that we read the Bible in a year, which is great, but not if we don’t understand what God is trying to tell us. If we don’t understand what He’s trying to tell us, then we can’t apply it to our lives.

My tip is, read it slow. Read it section by section, and then maybe go read a commentary. You can go to BibleGateway.com and find some commentaries there where it has some scholars who have studied the scripture who can tell you some history behind it, some things you didn’t know and you wouldn’t know unless you really really studied years and years and years. Take that and use it to apply it to your life.

In the book of Matthew, Jesus talked about two houses, one that was built on a rock and one that was built on sand. The difference between those two houses, the one built on the rock was a person who took the Word of God and applied it to their lives and actually did it, and the person who built their house on the sand was a person who heard the Word of God but didn’t apply it to their life.

Let’s be people who build our house on the rock so like Jesus said, when the wind comes and the storms hit our house, it doesn’t fall.

Have you ever noticed that social media and Instagram is full of people telling you how you’re doing this wrong?! or you’re lifting the weights wrong, or you’re doing everything wrong?! That’s just for them to get your attention.

I want to encourage you today that whatever you set out to do, whatever you’ve been wanting to do, just do it. Give God something to work with.

Did you know the Bible is full of people who couldn’t do what God wanted them to do? In fact, they just needed to step out before they even knew what they were doing. So today, go ahead, walk down the sidewalk, do the squats wrong, just do them. Because if you don’t do it, God’s got nothing to work with.

Have you come up short lately?

Has the job failed you?

Has there been a broken relationship?

Are there things in your life that you’re trying to draw from but they’re just not meeting your needs?

See, Jesus met a woman at the well, maybe you’ve heard of her, and he called her out and said, hey listen, go grab your husband. She said, I don’t have a husband. He said, you’re right, actually you have five husbands and the one you’re with is not your husband. See, Jesus was pointing to the fact that this woman was trying to draw what she needed from the wrong wells, from the things in her life that she thought would meet the needs, but they failed. They were broken.

Jeremiah chapter 2 says, my people have committed two sins. They have forsaken me, the spring of living water, and have dug their own cisterns, broken cisterns, that cannot hold water. See, Jesus has told this woman that if she really knew who he was, she would ask him for a drink and he would give her living water and that she would never thirst again.

See, when we come to Jesus, he’s the one who meets all of our needs. The things that we think we can draw from, the job, the success, the relationship, we think that those things are going to fill us up, but in fact, Jesus is the living water and he’s the one who’s going to fill up the needs in our life and he’s the only one who can make it so we thirst no more.
