Here's a little look around at what camping in the Okefenokee Swamp looks like, from a guided trip back in April where we crossed from east to west and camped at Canal Run (one of my favorites!) in the heart of the swamp. I love introducing people to the awesome experience of camping in this amazing wetland! Some of my guests on this trip had camped here before and were already avid paddlers and outdoorsmen/women, but for a few this was their first time paddle camping and I think they really loved it! That night I made grilled honey butter chicken (hence my charcoal chimney on the grate) and everyone made sliced veggies skewers for grilling. Some people made apple packets with honey and cinnamon for dessert (foil packets roasted over the coals). In the morning on the trusty Coleman, I made fresh coffee and cooked pork sausage links, turkey sausage patties, scrambled eggs, and toasted bagels (with cream cheese!) for breakfast. I think food just tastes better when you're camping! Check out this pretty scene I snapped while out boating in the recently. Be still my heart! And going this far (2 miles in, from the main entrance, the Suwannee Canal Recreation Area), is still truly on the edge of this amazing and vast wilderness.
