Stories and Slices had a great meeting with award-winning author, Ernesto Cisneros! He discussed his book “Falling Short” and talked about how he gets lots of his ideas from the sixth graders he teaches everyday. We are fortunate to have great storytellers like Ernesto to share his stories and share his time with us.

We had the privilege of speaking with author/journalist Nora Neus and journalist Muhammad Najem about their Caudill nominated book, “Muhammad Najem:War Reporter.” Muhammed talked about how he began taking videos of the war in Syria when he was 15 as a way to show the world what was really going on in his country. They discussed how they met and how they collaborated to bring his story to an even wider audience. It was a great conversation!

Everyone who attended this month’s Stories & Slices had a great time hearing Evan Wolkenstein share his story and how he incorporated his real life with his fantastic novel, Turtle Boy.

WJHS Book Fair begins Monday, October 23 and runs through Tuesday, October 31! Students can shop during the day or until 3:30 each day. The Book Fair will also be open during parent/teacher conferences on October 26-October 27. All purchases at the Book Fair directly help the school library and teachers' classroom libraries!

The Spring Book Fair is just days away! This is a great time to stock up on the books that students will want to read over the summer!

Waterloo Jr. High School is hosting a Book Fair just in time for the holidays! Students will be able to shop during school hours Dec. 2- Dec. 9. We will also have evening hours on Dec. 1 from 6:00 PM- 8:15 PM.

We had a great time talking with author Rob Harrell yesterday! Looking forward to reading "The Blackbird Girls" and chatting with author Anne Blankman in October!
