Heading out of town soon? Whether you’re going away for a long weekend or an extended vacation, leaving your fur babies behind can be stressful. You pack their food, lay out their favorite toys, and leave a list of instructions—but are you prepared for a medical emergency?
Accidents and sudden illnesses don't wait for you to get back. To ensure your pet sitter can act fast, we recommend putting together a Pet Sitter Emergency Document and leaving it right on the fridge!

Here is exactly what you should include to give your sitter (and yourself) total peace of mind:

📑 The Ultimate Pet Sitter Emergency Checklist
• Your Contact Info: Where you are staying, your flight details, and an alternate emergency contact who can make decisions if you are unreachable.
• Pet Identification: A recent photo of each pet, along with their microchip numbers, weight, and any distinguishing markings.
• Medical History & Medications: A list of current medical conditions, drug allergies, and clear instructions on dosage and schedules for any daily medications.
• Your Primary Vet’s Info: Name, number, and clinic address.
• Urgent & Emergency Care Info: Keep our number and address handy for those unexpected after-hours or urgent situations that can't wait for your regular vet!
• Payment Authorization: Leave a signed note or call your clinic ahead of time to place a credit card on file, authorizing emergency treatment up to a certain dollar amount while you are away.

The devastating and heartbreaking situation in Caswell has deeply impacted the Mat-Su community.

As emotions run high, it’s important to remember that the shelter is not affiliated with law enforcement and should not be the target of online criticism or hostility.

Many of us are feeling anger, sadness, and frustration. A constructive way to channel those feelings is by advocating for meaningful change. I encourage community members to contact the Mat-Su Borough Assembly and urge the following actions:

1. Revise statutes regarding animal care and abuse to allow animals to be placed into protective custody more efficiently, and to strengthen the ability to prosecute cases of abuse.
2. Increase funding and support for animal control services to ensure adequate staffing and resources to effectively manage the borough’s large and challenging geographic area.

By focusing our efforts where they can make the greatest impact, we can help prevent situations like this in the future.

Gentle Veterinary Services focuses on integrative care such as herbal medicine, supplements, acupuncture, functional testing, and diet & lifestyle support. Services are offered Wednesdays by referral only, with a strong emphasis on collaboration with primary care veterinarians.

🩺Consultations are available via telemedicine or in-person appointments hosted Wednesdays at our clinic.
