QuickBooks is a powerful tool — but sometimes it’s a little too willing to go along with things 😅
Just because something can be entered a certain way doesn’t always mean it should be. That’s why reviewing, reconciling, and understanding the numbers still matters.
This is also why we’re not too worried about AI taking over bookkeeping anytime soon 😂

“Ask My Accountant” is a common account in QuickBooks used to temporarily hold transactions that need review or clarification.
The problem is when transactions sit there long-term and never get cleaned up.
When tax time comes around, tax preparers don’t have a specific line on the tax return for “Ask My Accountant.” Those transactions still need to be properly reviewed, categorized, and cleaned up before accurate reports and returns can be prepared.

Bank feeds can be a helpful tool — but downloading transactions into QuickBooks isn’t the same as actually doing bookkeeping.
Transactions still need to be reviewed, categorized correctly, reconciled, and checked for accuracy.
Transactions left sitting in the bank feed are not included in your financial reports, which means your books may not reflect the full picture of your business.
Clean books require more than just imported data.

If your books are clean and up to date, you should be able to:
• Reconcile your accounts without outstanding or unexplained items
• Have all transactions added and categorized in your register
• Rarely see negative numbers on your Profit & Loss (other than things like refunds or discounts)
Clean books aren’t just about staying organized — they help you make better decisions and avoid bigger issues down the road.
If you need help getting your books to that point, give our office a call.

Not sure if your books are where they should be? Here are a few signs they might need attention:
• You have transactions sitting in your bank feed that haven’t been categorized
• Your accounts don’t reconcile or have unexplained differences
• You’re seeing accounts like “Uncategorized Expense” or “Ask My Accountant”
• There are old or unclear transactions sitting in your register
These are all common — but they can lead to bigger issues if left unaddressed.
Keeping your books clean and reconciled makes everything more accurate and easier to manage.
If you need help getting things cleaned up or back on track, give our office a call.
