Update... foster secured.

These two need a foster.

Anyone want foster little tabbies ?

We’ve been feeding this tomcat for over 5 years. Sometimes he’d be here every night for a week. Other times, he’d disappear for a few months because he was apparently out there knocking up the neighborhood girls. 🤦‍♀️😂

We hadn’t seen him in about 6 months.
Then early this morning, we got a call about a tabby under a car who wasn’t moving.

Sure enough… it was our guy and he let us pick him up.

We have NEVER been able to touch this cat. Not once. We’ve fed him. We’ve looked out for him. We tried to TNR him (he had some very strong opinions about our free birth control options). But touching him? Absolutely not.

So when he didn’t fight us today, we knew something was very, very wrong.

The Ark was able to sneak us in at the very end of the day, and unfortunately, this old boy was in bad shape. His heart rate was dangerously slow, his body temperature was very low, and he had a painfully full bladder that he was unable to express (but wasnt blocked).

After examining him, the vets agreed that helping him cross the bridge was the kindest thing we could do.

And damn, does it hurt.

For five years, we looked out for this cat. We fed him. We worried about him. We tried to get him fixed. We celebrated when he showed up and wondered where the hell he had gone when he disappeared.

But the hardest part?

It wasn’t until today—when we were saying goodbye—that he finally let us touch him.

For the first time, we could pet him.
For the first time, we could hold him.
And for the first time, we could make sure that before he left this world, he knew that someone cared about him.

And then something happened that made us feel like maybe his story could still help someone else.

The staff told us that one of their employees is currently going to school to become a CVT (Certified Veterinary Technician), and as part of their schooling, they need to observe or perform a necropsy and write a report.

They asked if this boy could be the kitty they used for their educational experience.

And our answer was yes......absolutely yes!!

Because if his life can help someone learn…If his body can teach a future veterinary professional something that might help another cat someday…then let his existence mean something even after he’s gone.

He may have spent his life as a street tomcat, coming and going as he pleased, but he wasn’t invisible.

We saw him, we fed him, we cared about him. And today, when he needed someone the most, we were there.

And now, even in death, he gets to help.

We just wish we could have given you that last little bit of love a whole lot sooner.

🌧️ The weather has officially entered its “stay inside and complain about the rain” phase.

So if you’re going to be stuck inside anyway, you might as well have a cat.

We’ve got plenty of them who would be happy to take over your couch, your blanket, and probably your personal space.
