General information
Congress should affirm these benefits and expand opportunities to modernize Medicare and Medicaid in the following ways:
• Retain the incentives to adopt and use electronic health records;
• Leverage HIT to pay for value versus volume to ensure taxpayers and beneficiaries receive the best quality care;
• Encourage commonsense and open technology standards to promote systemic interoperability;
• Expand adoption incentives by extending legal safe harbors to health care providers who adopt and conform to evidence based best practices;
• Use health IT to encourage participation in clinical trials at point of care; and
• Provide SBA loans for eligible professionals to adopt health IT.
Health IT Now continuously engages Congress and the Administration on to promote our policy priorities and those of our members. Through the course of 2011, the Coalition has worked to ensure that burdensome regulations and overly prescriptive certification requirements do not impede nationwide implementation of health IT.
The Coalition continues to develop and promote that regulations as well as federal requirements are implemented and developed to maximize the advancement of health IT. We leverage strategic relationships, our credible “go-to” brand, and our unique ability to mobilize a diverse group of stakeholders to shape and influence the implementation and adoption of health IT. We are actively engaging Members of the 112th Congress and their staffs to further enhance incentives for adoption and use to lower costs and improve quality.
