South Strabane Fire Department
The South Strabane Fire Department is comprised of members dedicated to serving and teaching the township of South Strabane and surrounding areas since 1956.
We provide services out of two stations. Station 44-1, which was founded in 1956, is located at 1696 East Maiden Street and Station 44-2, which was founded in 1960, is located at 172 Oak Spring Road. Our goal is to preserve life and property while promoting public safety. This page is not monitored 24/7. In the case of an emergency, please dial 911.

It was a productive day for South Strabane firefighters, support staff, and friends of the department!
The day started early as crews assisted the City of Washington Fire Department with a structure fire just prior to 4:30am.
After responding to a few medical calls and a fire alarm, Captain Effinger, Firefighter Fantauzzi, Firefighter Melville, and Firefighter Attwood took Engine 2 and Truck 2 to Tanger Outlets, Pittsburgh's Touch-A-Truck, showcasing our apparatus and equipment while connecting with members of the community.
Chief Cramer, Firefighters Balanti, Shriner, and Seaman, along with support members and community volunteers, spent the day packing and unloading a large furniture donation from our community partner, Range Resources Corporation. The furniture will help furnish the new classroom space in our Fire Administration Building (the original station 1 firehouse), located in the Pancake/Laboratory section of the township, which has been undergoing renovations over the past several months.
Meanwhile, Asst. Chief Winter was hard at work power washing the retaining wall and front apron outside the Fire Admin Building following the recent replacement of the garage bay doors. What a difference!
As always, we're here to serve you 24/7/365 because we're always thinking . ❤️

On Saturday, May 30th, South Strabane Fire officially welcomed Truck 44-2 home through a traditional Push-In Ceremony, placing our new 107-foot Pierce Mfg Ascendant aerial ladder into service.
Push-in ceremonies are a long-standing fire service tradition dating back to the days of horse-drawn fire apparatus. After returning from a fire, firefighters would unhitch the horses, wash the equipment, and physically push the apparatus back into the station so it would be ready for the next call. Today, we continue that tradition to honor those who came before us and to symbolize that this new apparatus is officially ready to serve our community.
This truck represents progress... a promise to the residents of South Strabane Township that we will continue to evolve and do everything possible to protect this community.
The journey to Truck 44-2 began years ago, accelerated by difficult lessons learned through incidents such as the Thomas Campbell Apartments fire. It challenged us to evaluate our capabilities and ensure that we were prepared to protect our growing community, including our mid-rise apartment buildings, nursing facilities, commercial developments, industrial occupancies, and the thousands of residents and visitors we serve each day.
Like many worthwhile endeavors, this project wasn't without challenges. But time and time again, this department demonstrated exactly who we are. Volunteer and career firefighters working side by side. Residents and stakeholders advocating for public safety.
To our residents and businesses: thank you for your trust, support, generosity, and pride in your fire department.
To the South Strabane Volunteer Fire Department: thank you for the countless hours spent fundraising, securing grants, operating bingo, and providing much of the specialized equipment carried on this truck.
To our Board of Supervisors and township leadership who supported this investment in public safety: thank you for recognizing the importance of preparing today for the emergencies of tomorrow.
To our Truck Committee and Advisory Committee: thank you for the hundreds of hours dedicated to designing, researching, and building this apparatus. Special recognition goes to Firefighter Bob Schuerle, Captain Brown, Assistant Chief Winter, and Committee Chair Captain Scott Effinger. Your commitment and attention to detail resulted in an apparatus that will serve this community for decades to come.
Finally, thank you to our neighboring agencies and partners who joined us for this special occasion:
• City of Washington Fire Department
• Canton Township Fire & Rescue
• North Strabane Township Fire Department
• Ambulance & Chair EMS, Inc.
Your presence reflects the strong partnerships that exist throughout our region and reminds us that no department serves alone.
Thank you to everyone who attended, helped push Truck 44-2 into its new home, shared in fellowship afterward, and continues to support the mission of the South Strabane Township Department of Fire & Emergency Services.

Special thanks to the community volunteers who helped plan this event and to Krency's Bakery and Catering for catering and donating some of the food!

Another great tradition that has developed over the past few years!
South Strabane firefighters were happy to again join the students and staff at Trinity East Elementary for their annual Water Fun Day, one of the many activities celebrating the end of another successful school year.
We want to thank the students, teachers, staff, and PTA for the invitation, as well as our volunteer and career firefighters for making it a huge success. Days like these are always a highlight for our crews, and truthfully, we have just as much fun as the kids do!
We hope everyone enjoys a safe, fun, and well-deserved summer break. Remember, we're always here if you need us. 🚒☀️😎

Not every rescue involves flashing lights and sirens.
This afternoon, South Strabane firefighters and police officers teamed up to rescue eight ducklings that found themselves trapped in a storm drain at the Old Mill shopping center. After a little teamwork (and some encouragement from a very concerned mama duck), all eight ducklings were safely reunited and on their way.
Just another day serving our community… one quack at a time. 🦆
