WIMA is a national trade association covering the $4.8 billion industry of pen, pencil and marker manufacturers.
WIMA was formed in 1943 to bring together the voices of the pen, marker and mechanical pencil industries. Since that time, the industry and the association have grown substantially, and WIMA's name and logo are widely recognized throughout the industry. In 1994, the Pencil Makers Association merged with WIMA to strengthen the industry's voice, making the impact of this association even stronger.

In honor of National Safety Month some exciting news regarding our PMA Certification program: WIMA is excited to announce that its PMA Certification Program just completed random sampling and testing managed by Intrinsik (www.Intrinsik.com) and passed with flying colors. The sampling was conducted pursuant to 16 CFR Part 1500.14(b)(8), Appendix A. WIMA conducts random sampling and testing on an annual basis.

The White House announced in mid-March that they were withdrawing the nomination of William Hewes III, of Mississippi, to be a Commissioner on the Consumer Product Safety Commission. Hewes' nomination had been sent to the Senate on January 13, 2026.
CPSC continues to operate with one Commissioner, Acting Chair Peter Feldman, who has maintained the CPSC at a very active level.
There is another pending nomination, that of Karen Diebel Sessions to be a Republican Commissioner on the CPSC. To date, no Senate Commerce hearing has been set to consider the Sessions nomination.
