Providing students with tomorrow's technology skills, today.

Photos from Techturnup's post 06/22/2026

Last week, Ron Brown School, in partnership with Tech Turn Up, hosted an Innovation Showcase where students presented a range of impressive coding projects. From persona-based gaming concepts and the evolution of gaming, to practical tools like attendance trackers and Python-based analytics, the level of creativity and technical skill on display was inspiring. For Tech Turn Up, this experience was especially meaningful. It reflects our mission to ensure that every child is exposed to STEAM and empowered to build, create, and innovate through technology. We are excited to see what these young innovators will do next.

🏆 BEYOND THE SCOREBOARD

We often celebrate points scored. But some victories look different.

They're measured by curiosity, confidence, and the discovery of interests that can help shape a young person's future.

This student explored coding, robotics, and computer science through opportunities to learn, create, and grow. Along the way, they discovered new possibilities and developed skills that can open doors for years to come.

We believe every young person deserves the opportunity to explore different pathways and discover what inspires them.

✨ Exposure Creates Opportunities.

Exposure Matters

One of the most powerful things we can give young people is the opportunity to meet people who inspire them to think differently about their future.

Since joining Tech Turn Up in March, Quinn Matthew has helped students explore technology, creativity, and innovation in ways many had never experienced before. As both a technology educator and dancer, she showed students that STEAM can be about coding, creativity, movement, and self-expression.

Most importantly, she helped create a welcoming environment where students felt comfortable trying new things, asking questions, and building confidence.

We are incredibly grateful for Quinn's contributions to our students and wish her all the best in her summer endeavors.

Thank you, Quinn, for helping our young people discover new possibilities. 💙

When this program began, most of our students had little or no experience with technology and weren't sure what to expect.

Over the past few weeks, they explored creativity, problem-solving, and coding in a fun and supportive environment. Today, they proudly earned their certificates and celebrated everything they accomplished along the way.

We are so proud of these young creators for stepping outside their comfort zones, trying something new, and discovering what they are capable of.

Thank you to the families, teachers, and supporters who helped make this learning journey possible.

🚀 UXTerps, the HCIM program, and Hack4Impact teamed up to host an the UXTerps Makeathon that brought together 100+ students from INFO and Computer Science for a high-energy design sprint!

From problem framing 💡 to final concepts, teams built solutions with the children for whom they were designing for throughout the process, keeping real users at the center of every decision.

Big thanks to our amazing partners at Techturnup 🤝 for their thoughtful collaboration, and to INFO panelists Wayne Lutters, Caro Williams-Pierce, and Galina Madjaroff Reitz for their insights and support.

Our Associate Board is growing and we’re excited to welcome our newest member, Alex Oh.

Alex brings a strong background in technology policy, with experience across regulatory analysis, global tech trends, and the evolving landscape of AI, data privacy, and online platforms. In his current role as a Regulatory and Policy Advisor at TMG, he works closely with both governments and technology companies on issues like compliance, market access, and legislative reform.

His perspective is thoughtful, forward-looking, and exactly the kind of voice we value as we continue to grow our impact.

We’re so glad to have you Alex, welcome to the team!

We’re still looking to expand our Associate Board and connect with volunteers who are passionate about youth, nonprofits, and increasing access to technology across the DC Metro area. If that sounds like you, we’d love to connect!
