Memories from Festival 26! ☀️⚽️
Earlier this month, DC SCORES alumni Maria, Eliana, Adé, Michael, and Harold, along with staff members Saede and Josselin, packed their bags for a week in Boston!
They kicked things off with a day of equity and inclusion at Boston SCORES, where they sat in on a panel featuring Boston Legacy FC’s Chief Revenue Officer Amina Bulman, Paralympic bronze medalist Anna Johannes, and U.S. Men’s Amputee Soccer Team captain Nico Calabria.
They then jumped into adaptive and blind soccer before heading to the Opening Ceremony at Berklee Performance Center for an evening of song and dance. The night featured a poem by yess_maa and performances by Alex Diaz and Floor Lords, Boston Breakin Crew.
They closed out the week at the TRACK at new balance, where influencer SV2 / EMAN led drills and called the football3 final!

🏛️✨ Summer camp at the National Museum of African American History and Culture!
Last Friday, DC SCORES campers visited the NMAAHC. The visit complemented last week’s camp lesson, where they explored the history of Step and discovered how Washingtonians have used protest, activism, and the power of their voices to create change. 🪧✍🏽
Kayla Nelson, 2026 DC Youth Poet Laureate, DC SCORES alumna, and native Washingtonian with something to say!
Kayla opened the plenary session at the United Philanthropy Forum Conference (United Philanthropy Forum) with her poem “I’m a Native Washingtonian,” and brought the room to a standing ovation. 🎤✨

This year’s summer camp kicked off with a pep rally last Thursday at LaSalle-Backus Elementary (LaSalle-Backus ES). Poet-athletes were joined by three DC SCORES alumni who represented the U.S. at the Street Child World Cup () in Mexico City!

We are incredibly proud to be an official delegation of Festival 21!⚽️🌍
In less than two weeks, six of DC SCORES alumni will travel to Boston, Massachusetts, for nine days of leadership development, cultural immersion, and sport for good programming — learning and playing alongside more than 400 young people from around the world.
Festival 26 is a global youth gathering developed to harness the power of sport to create transformative opportunities for young people. Hosted by and with support from , Festival 26 will give all participants the opportunity to expand their cross-cultural knowledge, deepen their understanding of sport for impact, and visit one of the U.S.’s most historical cities as it plays host to the 2026 World Cup.
