We are a caring, collaborative, effective, and knowledgeable organization working to improve the lives of domestic violence survivors and their families in the DC area. Survivors and Advocates for Empowerment, Inc., also known as DC SAFE, provides a continuum of crisis response services that support domestic violence survivors in the critical window immediately after they report a violent incident

Today, we honor Juneteenth and the enduring pursuit of freedom, equity, and justice. While our administrative offices are closed in observance of the holiday, our crisis services remain available 24/7. We wish our community a meaningful and safe Juneteenth.

It is with profound sadness that we share the news of a loss in our community. On June 16, Melissa, a women who had been connected with DC SAFE, was killed by her intimate partner. We grieve this tragic loss, and we extend our deepest condolences to her family and loved ones.

DC SAFE continues its work to ensure survivors have access to the advocacy and support they need to live safely and free from violence. Moments like this remind us of the responsibility we carry and our capacity for helping our clients and the community create safety.

Did you know that access to a firearm makes an abusive partner five times more likely to kill their female victim?

This weekend, we're wearing orange in solidarity with the movement to end gun violence. 🟠 Orange is more than a color—it's a symbol of hope, a demand for change, and a reminder that every life lost to gun violence matters.

A huge thank you to G.E.M.S. (Girls of Excellence, Mentorship, & Services) at Digital Pioneers Academy for donating 50 care packages to survivors served by DC SAFE. 💜

Each package included essential hygiene and self-care items alongside handwritten notes of encouragement—created with the intention of reminding survivors of their worth and importance.

We're so grateful for these heartfelt gifts and their dedication to uplifting our community!

Happy Pride from DC SAFE ❤️🧡💛💚💙💜

We’re proud to stand with LGBTQ+ survivors and community members today and every day. Everyone deserves relationships rooted in safety, respect, and support, regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity, or expression.

Last year, DC SAFE supported more than 750 LGBTQ+ survivors, including 43 trans survivors. We’re also proud to be part of the city’s LGBTQ+ Violence Prevention and Response Team, working alongside partners across DC to help build safer communities for all.

Last but not least, a huge thank you to CLA for supporting DC SAFE’s Annual Spring Luncheon! As DC SAFE’s auditor, their commitment to financial integrity helps strengthen our work, and we’re grateful for their continued partnership and support.
