Shia Rights Watch has submitted urgent information to United Nations Special Procedures concerning reported detentions and actions affecting Khatam al-Nabiyyin Seminary and Shia community institutions in Kabul.
Reports describe the detention of teachers and students, the evacuation and takeover of the seminary, and further actions involving Shia religious scholars and community representatives. The whereabouts, legal status and condition of some reportedly detained people remain unclear.
SRW is asking UN experts to seek immediate clarification from the Taliban de facto authorities, ensure the safety and due-process rights of those detained, and examine whether these incidents form part of broader restrictions affecting Afghanistan’s Shia community.
A property dispute must be resolved through transparent legal procedures. It must not become a justification for arbitrary detention, discrimination or interference with religious education and community life.

Shia Rights Watch (SRW) documents ongoing human rights violations affecting Shia communities during June 2026 across multiple countries.
The report highlights a continued pattern of arbitrary arrests, restrictions on religious freedom, attacks on places of worship, and violence against civilians in Afghanistan, Pakistan, Bahrain, Kuwait, Egypt, Syria, Saudi Arabia, and Iraq.
These documented cases reflect broader concerns regarding the protection of fundamental human rights, including freedom of religion or belief, peaceful assembly, and personal security.
SRW emphasizes that each incident represents real individuals whose rights and dignity have been affected.
Shia Rights Watch remains committed to monitoring, documenting, and advocating for accountability and justice in accordance with international human rights standards.

A society that restricts peaceful religious expression weakens its own commitment to freedom. A society that protects it honors the dignity of all.
12 Years Later. The victims of Camp Speicher are not forgotten. Their memory demands justice, accountability, and an end to sectarian hatred.
Camp Speicher was not just a massacre—it was a crime against humanity. We remember the thousands of Shia cadets murdered in 2014 and stand with their families in the pursuit of justice.
