In May, AMCHP joined in celebrating 10 years of advocacy by the Maternal Mental Health Leadership Alliance (MMHLA) and champion Congresswoman Robin Kelly (IL-02). Over the past decade, MMHLA has played a key role in advancing awareness, policy, and access to maternal mental health care nationwide.
Congresswoman Kelly has been a leading voice in improving outcomes for women and families through federal policy and federal investment. As she prepares to retire at the end of this Congress, AMCHP is grateful for her longstanding leadership and commitment to .

âMaintaining Momentum: Strengthening Programs through Continuous Quality Improvements and Capacity Building.
This session will focus on how continuous quality improvement (CQI) and building a supportive organizational culture can lead to ongoing program sustainability and lasting impact. Participants will be part of an interactive discussion about strategies, tools, and resources they can apply to their own programs, as well as hear real-world insights and lessons learned on sustaining perinatal SUD initiatives.

On Tuesday, AMCHP joined the Coalition for Health Fundingâs Hill Day, the nationâs oldest and largest nonprofit alliance dedicated to protecting and strengthening investments for all Americans. Alongside fellow public health leaders, AMCHP advocated for critical funding priorities and shared key challenges shaping FY27 appropriations discussions.
Central to our conversations were support for the Title V MCH Block Grant, the CDCâs Safe Motherhood Portfolio, and the CDCâs Surveillance for Emerging Threats to Mothers and Babies Network (SET-NET).
We were also excited to have Leslie Omeire, our new Policy & Government Affairs Internâa current medical and public health student and aspiring OB-GYNâjoin us for her first Hill Day on Capitol Hill!

AMCHP is pleased to announce that on April 30, we concluded our special election for the AMCHP Board of Directors, resulting in the appointment of Rebekah Morisse to serve as Interim Region X Director from 2026 â 2028, and CoralaidĂŠe (Coral) JimĂŠnez Burgos as Interim Family Representative from 2026 â 2027. Please join us in congratulating these new officers!
Rebekah is the Title V Maternal and Child Health Director for Alaska and serves as the Section Chief for Womenâs, Childrenâs, and Family Health, located within the Alaska Division of Public Health, in the Alaska Department of Health.
Coral is the Family Representative for the Children and Youth with Special Health Care Needs (CYSHCN) Program in Puerto Rico and an AMCHP Family Delegate. Most notably, Coral is a mother to a son, FĂŠlix, born in 2005 with multiple conditions, which proudly prompted her to become an advocate for raising awareness of the challenges experienced by children with special needs and their families and promoting family representation at all levels.
