The District’s care economy is under threat. SPACEs in Action, along with partner organizations, brought together workers, families, providers and caregivers on May 20 at the John A. Wilson Building for a Care Economy Rally & Advocacy Day to fight for healthcare, child care, and paid family and medical leave. As DC moves through a critical budget season, Councilmembers and their staff heard from residents and advocates about the programs that help make DC a place where all people can care for themselves and each other.

On June 9th, DC Council will vote on our city’s budget. We demand they fund healthcare, child care, and paid family leave to support DC families. Today we rallied together at the Wilson Building to tell the stories of the people these cuts impact the most.

With Republicans holding the White House, Senate, and House, any government shutdown is squarely on their shoulders. It's time to recognize who's truly responsible when priorities shift from constituents to billionaires. We can't let them deflect blame or rewrite history. Let's make sure our voices are heard and hold those in power accountable to the people they were elected to serve. This isn't about partisanship; it's about holding leaders responsible for the choices they make.
