Meet Piper, a sweet and social 7 year old purebred lovernose who recently traded in her latchkey life on the farm for a life of indoor luxury, and boy did she take to that life! There is no going back for Piper now, she has taken quite a liking to having humans, dog friends, couches, dog and human beds . . . . and if she’s honest, the plethora of snacks that comes with being in the house too . . . the kind that are given and the kind that are “found!” She is quite the social butterfly and is a fan of pretty much everyone, men, women, older kids, and dogs both large and small, she has even had the pleasure of meeting the occasional horse and cow and allegedly cats (we’re taking her word on the miniature lions). One of her favorite things is a car ride, she will happily ride shotgun on any road trip especially if it might involve snacks. She is fully housebroken, but a crate?!? Piper says, “I have tasted seven years of freedom, I reject confinement and have unlocked the secret skill of opening closed doors like a tiny human.” Her one little quirk is a touch of separation anxiety from her past life, she believes that she should never be left behind. Luckily, she’s made wonderful progress in her foster home and does great as long as her humans are around most of the time or if she has her furry foster sibling to keep her company while the humans run out for more treats.

Do you have a rescue Ridgeback? Do you love to show off your best friend? If so, you’re in luck! This year’s National Ridgeback Specialty will be held in Topeka, KS. On Thursday evening, October 15th, the event will feature the Top 25 Ridgebacks in the country, as well as the rescue champions of your heart. That evening, they’ll all strut their stuff around the ring.

There is no cost to participate in the Rescue Parade, and each dog that participates will receive a ribbon and a medallion. Procrastination may be an art, but space is limited, so don’t wait too long to secure your spot.

*all entrants OVER 12 months of age must be spayed or neutered, at the time of entry submission.

**Any dog adopted as a Ridgeback and/or Ridgeback mix from one of the seven recognized breed specific rescues may enter. Dogs adopted from a shelter must be purebred (if ridgeless with proof) or permanently ridged, if a mix.

Meet Benny! He’s a 4-year-old purebred who is currently in boarding and would love to find a foster home. While he’s doing well in boarding, he is more than ready to step into a real home and learn what the good life is all about.

Because Benny spent the first four years of his life living outdoors, he will need a patient foster who can help introduce him to being an indoor dog.

During his time in boarding, he’s made great progress on his leash manners. He thrives with a calm handler who provides clear, consistent boundaries. Benny is very intuitive, if he senses you aren't fully engaged, he’ll happily take you for a ride on the leash!

He is still building his trust with people, so he doesn't enjoy anyone reaching over or touching his head right now. The absolute best way to earn his trust and help him come out of his shell is to sit quietly beside him, letting him approach on his own terms. Once he feels comfortable, his sweet, goofy, and playful side shines through. Plus, he is a massive fan of snacks and takes treats with the gentlest mouth!

Because of his background, Benny loves to go exploring. A securely fenced yard is a must for his safety, along with a foster who will help him learn entry and exit boundaries.

Benny would do best as an only dog or with a calm, stable female.

If you have a quiet routine, a secure yard, and a spot on your couch for a resilient boy learning the ropes, Benny is ready for you!

2027 Calendar Photo Submission - Rhodesian Ridgeback Rescue, Inc. description

Meet the Boxcar Children: Henry, Jesse, Benny and Violet! They recently found themselves in a predicament, where they were homeless and facing a life of uncertainty. Even though they were terrified, they knew they couldn't let it get the better of them and were determined to make the best of their circumstances. Soon they learned Rhodesian Ridgeback Rescue, Inc. had arranged to pick them up and there was a whole life of possibilities and adventure awaiting them.

While Violet and Henry are getting settled into their foster homes.
Benny and Jesse are still looking for fosters, and currently in boarding. However, while they wait, they will be getting lots of one on one attention, starting on basic obedience, and just some good old pampering.

While we are learning more every everyday, this is what we know so far:
Henry (4), is a sweet boy that seems to just want to soak up any and all attention from humans.
Benny (4), needs time to come out of his shell, he wants to sit back and observe before he determines if the world is safe to participate in.
Jesse (4), is an energetic boy who is inquisitive but also likely will get overstimulated by the world since he has not been socialized.
Violet (5), is sweet, needs to be evaluated by the vet due to her weight and skin issues.

🚨FOSTER HOMES NEEDED🚨

RRRI has been alerted to 4 adult purebred ridgebacks in a SoCal shelter. There are 3 males and 1 female, from the information we have they have lived their lives outdoors, are not crate trained, we can assume they are not housebroken, they have prey drive so should not live with cats or livestock. They are good with people and at the very least the dogs they have lived with.
We are looking for four separate foster homes with well socialized and confident dogs. The males will do best with female dogs and the female with a male so they can learn from their foster siblings. A foster home that is patient and will allow the dogs to come out of their shells in their own time, but also push them out of their comfort zones with gentle nudges. Fosters that understand while they are adult in size, they may need to be treated like puppies in the potty training, leash walking departments and exposure to the outside world. They also will require securely fenced yards.

They were evaluated at the shelter, the volunteer (who has been in ridgebacks for decades) felt they were typical under socialized ridgebacks, but not aggressive.

Wylagene “Willy” is a 2.5yo, spayed, UTD on vax, Valley Fever clear, purebred. 🐾✨ She’s housebroken, crate trained, and walks well on leash. 🦮🤍 She has lived with school aged kids 👧🧒 and a male ridgeback previously. 🐕 Cats are unknown. 🐱❓ She’s a pretty easy keeper. 😍 Just needs a little help getting back into shape 💪🐾, nothing a diet 🥗, personal trainer 🏋️‍♀️ and a four legged friend 🐶 can’t fix! “Willy” will also make you question your sanity 🤪😂, when you are folding your laundry. 🧺👕 Pairing your munchkins socks 🧦, wondering if the dyer ate them . . . nope . . . it was likely “Willy”. 😂🐾 So not only will she fill your home with love and laughter ❤️🤣, she will also make you a better housekeeper 🏡✨ because you have to make sure you account for all the socks before she does! 🧦👀🐶

These adorable girls didn’t expect their lives to take this turn 🐾💔 Through no fault of their own, they found themselves in a Dallas, Texas area shelter, confused, a little scared, and dreaming of the life they once knew.

But sometimes, in our darkest hours, we meet the ones who are meant to make a real difference ✨ Thanks to our hardworking volunteers, RRRI was able to give these girls a second chance and a soft foster home to land in 🏡❤️

One of the girls has some wounds and lacerations on a hind leg that are being tended to and has been started on antibiotics 🩹🐕 Aside from that and a little extra “fluff” (nothing a diet and exercise can't fix! 😅), they appear to be in pretty good shape.

For now, they’re enjoying the good things in life again: sunny spots in the yard ☀️, butt scratches 🐶, the comfort of simply feeling safe 🤍, and a few snacks here and there (though they sure have their opinions on the diet part! 🍪😂)
