Following the June 5 islandwide blackout, the National Water Commission (NWC) has restored operations to many water supply systems across Jamaica. However, approximately 65,000 customers (12% of the NWC's customer base) remain without water service.

Major treatment plants and pumping stations are back online, but ongoing electrical power outages affecting facilities in Clarendon, St. Elizabeth, and St. James are delaying full restoration in some communities.

The Ministry of Water, Environment and Climate Change, NWC, JPS, and other partners continue to work around the clock to restore service, maintain backup power systems, and rebuild water storage capacity in affected areas.

We thank residents for their patience and encourage the public to follow official channels for the latest updates.

Unstable weather conditions are expected to affect sections of Jamaica over the coming days due to a trough across the central Caribbean.

Expect periods of showers and thunderstorms, which may be heavy at times. Strong gusty winds are also expected, particularly across southern parishes. Marine interests and fishers are advised to exercise extreme caution as sea conditions may deteriorate.

Last week, alongside , I was proud to join residents of Stepney, St. Ann, for the groundbreaking of a new $140 million rainwater catchment tank that will provide more reliable access to potable water for the community.

This investment is about more than infrastructure; it is about improving lives, strengthening resilience, and ensuring that development delivers real benefits to our people.

By continuing to invest in water security, this Government is building stronger, more resilient communities and creating a better future for all Jamaicans.🇯🇲💧

In the margins on the Island States Ocean Summit, I had the opportunity to meet with Motoyuki ISHIZE Director-General of the Latin American and Caribbean Affairs Bureau, in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan.

We discussed the strong relationship between our nations, and the multiple partnerships that have benefited our people.

I thanked them for their leadership on matters of Environmental and Ocean governance.

Today, Major General Antony Anderson takes charge of the rebuilding effort with resilience at the center of every project. Hurricane Melissa devastated Jamaica, and has forced us to change the development trajectory, and made this perhaps his most important mission.
I wish him every success in the role.

On Friday I had the opportunity to join MHPM and Min for a tour of Tivoli Gardens. As one of our oldest residential communities it is no surprise that there are significant urgent infrastructure needs.

Our commitment to West Kingston is not in question. The necessary investment in the supporting infrastructure will be clear over the next 12 months.

Jamaica has long had an issue with Sewage management, in my recent contribution to the Sectoral debate I made 2 commitments to communities who have suffered disproportionately from this issues.

Firstly, I committed to the closure and relocation of the Cesspool offloading facility in Greenwich Town, which has severely affected the Primary School in the area.

Secondly, we have started the studies and assessments that will allow us to relocate the Portmore Sewage Treatment Plant.

No community should have to suffer through the stench of Sewage. We will correct this longstanding issue for the people of these communities.
