I just published a new blog post about something many small business owners and creative professionals deal with far too often: fake client scams.
Interior designers, architects, decorators, contractors, consultants, and other independent professionals are regularly targeted by people posing as potential clients. The patterns are familiar: urgent projects, emotional stories, suspicious payment arrangements, certified checks, third-party vendors, and now even fake meeting links pretending to be Google Meet or Zoom.
Recently, I received another suspicious inquiry. When I sent my own Zoom link, the person claimed they couldn’t access it and sent a fake “Google Meet” link that prompted me to update software.
Nope.
A real client respects a professional process. A scammer tries to rush you out of one. This post is a reminder to trust your instincts, verify inquiries, protect your systems, and never ignore red flags just because someone is dangling a potential project in front of you. Small business owners are not easy targets.
