Today we honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. by choosing what he called us to choose: love, service, and a shared responsibility for one another. These 5 quotes are as relevant today as they were when Dr. King spoke and we must change for the world to change
1. “I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: ‘We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal.’”
— “I Have a Dream” speech, March on Washington, August 28, 1963
2. “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.”
— “Letter from Birmingham Jail,” 1963
3. “Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.”
— Strength to Love, 1963
4. “The time is always right to do what is right.”
— Speech at Oberlin College, 1964
5. “Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter.”
— Speech at Riverside Church, New York City, 1967
At Mentors in Motion, we believe love looks like action:
- Showing up for our young scholars
- Being on the front line helping aid and develop our community
- Providing quality mentoring for those we encounter
- Creating safe spaces where scholars can learn, grow, and lead with confidence in their gifts and abilities
That’s why our mission is rooted in building a stronger community one scholar, one family, one act of service at a time.

Let’s choose love and build the community Dr. King believed we could.
Last week our CEO and Founder, had the opportunity to travel to Washington, D.C. to stand alongside his family in a powerful mission feeding youth in transition and supporting young people who need it most.
This work goes beyond meals. It’s about showing up, building community, and reminding our youth that they are seen, valued, and supported no matter where they are in life.
Thank you Mr. Pitts for representing Mentors In Motion while uplifting the next generation in our nation’s capital. 💙
