🎨🐾 When art meets adoption magic🐾🎨

A huge thank you to the incredibly talented Alexandra Hirsch for creating this beautiful portrait of our very own Guppy!

We’re completely in love with Alex’s work and, judging by Guppy’s reaction, she’s a pretty big fan too.

We’re always so grateful when members of our community use their talents to celebrate the animals in our care. From paintings and photos to fostering and adoption, every act of kindness helps shine a light on pets who are waiting for their next chapter.

If Guppy’s artistic debut has stolen your heart, come visit her and the many other wonderful animals at HRA.

🐾✨ Meet Impala ✨🐾

Graceful, playful, and full of personality—Impala is ready to find her match. She’s been working hard on her training, loves to move, and brings so much joy wherever she goes. Now all she needs is someone to share it with.

Did you know many of our dogs—like Impala—are living with foster caregivers? That means they’re living in homes and showing off their true personalities while they wait to be adopted.

Adopting a foster pup is easy:
1️⃣ Visit the HRA website: humanerescuealliance.org
2️⃣ Click “Adopt”
3️⃣ Filter the results by location (Foster Program vs Oglethorpe St)
4️⃣ Select a pet to learn more and email their foster directly to set up a meet & greet!

Your perfect match might be waiting in a foster home right now. 🐶✨

✨It’s and Athena deserves a home✨

Athena has been waiting 328 days for a family to choose her. And we’re doing everything we can to help keep Athena out of the shelter.

Athena has been thriving in foster care where she’s been able to show everyone who she truly is: smart, loyal, cuddly, playful, and deeply devoted to her people. But now, her wonderful foster caregiver is heading out of town —and Athena urgently needs somewhere to go next.

Athena would prefer to be the only pet in the home, but honestly, with this much love and personality, she’s all the dog you need.

This National Rescue Dog Day, we’re asking our community to step up for long-stay dogs like Athena.

👉Fostering gives dogs a break from the stress of the shelter and gives them the chance to continue healing, loving, and being seen for who they truly are.

🐶 Interested in fostering Athena? Send us a DM and we’ll connect you directly to our foster team.

Let’s help Athena stay in the comfort of a home while she continues waiting for the family she deserves.

🌼🐶 Allergy season impacts pets, too! 🐶🌼

Our furry friends can be allergic to many of the same things people are—pollen, grass, dust, certain foods, bug bites, and more.

If you notice 👉 itching, swelling, redness, excessive licking, sneezing, or any sudden reaction, checking in with your vet early can be incredibly important and, in some cases, lifesaving.

With allergy season in full swing (and many animals ready for their vaccinations) we also want to let our community know that the online booking feature for medical appointments is currently getting an overhaul.

For now, the best way to reach our veterinary teams is by phone:
☎️ 202-723-5730 ext. 2

And scroll to see what adoptable ✨Layla✨ from the start of the video looks like now! Come visit this beautiful girlie at our shelter:
