💙🐾 A day of kindness, community, and compassion. 🐾💙

Today, we had the pleasure of welcoming the Washington, DC Metropolitan Police Department (), and they didn’t come empty-handed! They generously donated more than 150 toys and 400 pounds of pet food to help care for the animals in our shelter.

As if that wasn’t enough, they also brought a wonderful group from the local Boys & Girls Club to tour our shelter, meet some of our animals, and learn more about HRA’s mission and the work we do every day.

Moments like these remind us that caring for animals is truly a community effort. We’re incredibly grateful to  for their generosity and partnership, and for the opportunity to share our mission with the next generation of animal advocates and pet lovers.

Thank you to everyone who helped make today so special. Together, we’re creating a brighter future for both people and pets. 💛

🐱🖤 Meet Gollum 🖤🐱

Don’t let her serious expression fool you. Gollum may look like she’s contemplating the mysteries of the universe, but underneath that stoic face is one of the sweetest cats you’ll ever meet.

This quiet lady absolutely adores people and would be more than happy to spend her days curled up in your lap, soaking up pets and keeping you company.

While she isn’t the type to demand endless playtime, she’ll never pass up the chance to be close to her favorite humans.

If you’re looking for a loyal companion who prefers cuddles over chaos and will happily be your shadow around the house, Gollum is ready to meet you.

Visit HRA’s adoption page to learn more about Gollum and all of the wonderful cats waiting for a home. 🐾💛

🎉🐾 Happy Tails, Troy... now Benito! 🐾🎉

Some new beginnings come with a brand-new name, and we're so excited to celebrate Troy, now lovingly known as Benito!

Named after Puerto Rico's biggest musical artist, Benito is already living up to his superstar name.

In just over a week at home, Benito has settled in beautifully. He's become fast friends with his older sister, Suzy, has been mastering his commands, and is making wonderful progress with house training.

His adopter shared, "My partner and I have thoroughly enjoyed our decision to adopt Benito. He's honestly the best boy ever." 💛

Stories like Benito's remind us how quickly love, patience, and a welcoming home can help a dog thrive. We couldn't be happier for Benito and his family, and we can't wait to see all of the adventures still to come.

Happy Tails, Benito! Wishing you a lifetime of love, treats, and unforgettable memories. 🐶✨

🐶💛 Puppy season is in full swing... and we could use your help.

Over the past two months, more than 50 puppies have come through HRA's doors. While every one of them is unique, they all have one thing in common: they need a safe place to grow until they're ready for adoption.

In this video, you'll see Rhiannon and Chekov. Rhiannon may be a little shy at first, but having another dog around helps her confidence blossom. Chekov is a smart, affectionate boy who's eager to learn and would thrive with a little training and lots of love. These two have been with us a little longer than many of the other puppies, and we'd love to see them experience the comfort of a foster home.

Whether you're looking for a playful goofball, a quiet cuddle buddy, or a curious explorer, there's a puppy waiting to match your lifestyle. By fostering, you're giving a young dog the chance to learn, grow, and prepare for a bright future, all while creating space for us to help even more animals in need.

🎉🐾 From HRA alum to life-saving hero. Congratulations, Ziggy! 🐾🎉

When Ziggy first arrived at HRA in 2022, he was a sweet, social stray with an incredible love for toys. Unfortunately, his first adoption didn't work out, and by the time he returned to us in 2024, shelter life had become challenging.

But our Behavior Team saw something special beneath the surface: an extraordinary drive that could be the foundation for something amazing.

That spark led Ziggy to a training evaluation with a local Urban Search & Rescue team, where he impressed everyone from the very first moment he stepped onto the rubble pile.

After months of testing, dedication, and hard work, Ziggy was accepted into the National Search Dog Foundation in Santa Paula, California.

Over the past year and a half, Ziggy trained alongside the incredible team at
National Disaster Search Dog Foundation before being paired with San Diego firefighter Corey Teng of California Task Force 8.

On July 18, the duo officially graduated as a certified Urban Search & Rescue Team and are now ready to deploy alongside their task force teammates to help people affected by disasters.

We couldn't be prouder of Ziggy and everyone who believed in his potential. His journey is a beautiful reminder that every dog has unique gifts, and sometimes all they need is someone to recognize them.

Congratulations, Ziggy! We'll be rooting for you every step of the way. 💙🐶

🎥 Want to cheer Ziggy on?
You can watch his search team pairing ceremony tomorrow, Saturday July 25 at 1:00pm (EST) on the National Search Dog Foundation's Facebook and YouTube channels.

🐾 Two hearts. One home. 🐾💕

Rupert and Charley are a bonded pair looking for a family who will let them stay side by side, just as they've always been.

These two gentle girls are still discovering that the world can be a safe and loving place.

Rupert is incredibly cuddly and sweet once she begins to trust, while Charley is a quiet, kind soul whose confidence grows a little more every day.

Together, they support one another through life's new adventures, and it's been a joy watching them blossom in foster care.

With patience, kindness, plenty of treats (especially cheese for Charley! 🧀), and a calm home, we know these deserving pups will continue to come out of their shells and show just how loving they can be.

Their future family won't just be changing two lives. They'll get to witness two beautiful transformations unfold together.

Rupert and Charley are currently living in foster care and are looking for a home where they can continue their journey side by side.

Could you be the family they've been waiting for?

Visit the HRA website, select Adopt, filter for Dogs in Foster Care, and submit an inquiry to learn more about bringing this special duo home. 💛

🐾💛 Meet Liberty 💛🐾

Some cats have expensive taste. Liberty? She thinks a bottle cap is priceless. 😸

This charming, treat-loving girl can turn just about anything into the best toy ever. A crumpled piece of paper? Game on. A dust bunny rolling across the floor?

Instant entertainment. She has a wonderfully silly streak and isn’t afraid to embrace her adorably derpy side.

When she’s not inventing new games, Liberty is happily accepting pets, collecting treats, and soaking up attention from her favorite people. She’s the kind of cat who reminds us that the simplest moments are often the most fun.

If you’re looking for a playful companion with a big personality and an even bigger heart, Liberty is ready to steal yours.

Visit HRA’s adoption page to learn more about Liberty and the many amazing cats waiting for their forever homes. 🐱✨
