This morning we thought the fog had won… but about 10 minutes later it cleared out and practice resumed! Thanks Coach Emily Schmeig for keeping Sun’s Up Sweep safe AND for waiting it out.

"When I was 19, I rowed Head of the Occoquan and our crew finished a distant last place. When I was 45, I rowed Head of the Occoquan and our crew finished a distant first place. I chuckle because I did win the regatta, it just took 26 years. It was only because I learned to row at Capital."

Morning Advanced/Intermediate Sweep
The thing I like most about rowing:
Sweep rowing is an unparalleled sport. The body movement, sequence, and flow interplay with the mind. You become the sweep movement. A crew replicating this movement in unison — or close to unison — executes a dynamic unmatched anywhere in athletics. Practice and winning are each a reward. The person you become is the ultimate achievement.
When I'm not at the boathouse:
I lean into Zone 2 endurance training, like cycling, strength, or trail. I especially like our National Parks system, where I enjoy a good life with good people.
My personal philosophy:
Your character is more important than your skill. Develop both and you will have something more enduring than trophies and medals.
