Today is on Capitol Hill and I’m thrilled to be joined by Monica Contreras from Sonoma County, CA!

Monica is an amazing young leader with a passion for improving our foster care system and uplifting former foster youth. I am so inspired by her story and excited to have her here in Washington!

I just voted NO on Republicans' partisan budget bill. Alabama families need relief, not another blank check for ICE.

Rep. Sewell Statement on Alabama's Scheduled Ex*****on of Jeffery Lee 06/09/2026

I believe Jeffery Lee's crimes were horrific, and he must be held accountable. I am also deeply troubled by Alabama's decision to proceed with his ex*****on.

Mr. Lee was not sentenced to death by a jury. Moreover, serious legal questions persist surrounding Alabama's use of nitrogen suffocation as a method of ex*****on.

I am respectfully urging Governor Ivey to commute Mr. Lee's sentence to life without parole. At the very least, she should pause this scheduled ex*****on until the pending litigation has run its course.

62 years ago today, peaceful demonstrators in Tuscaloosa were met with with violence while demanding an end to segregation. Though often overlooked, the events of Bloody Tuesday remain a vital part of Alabama's—and America's—history.

May we never forget the brave men and women who put their lives on the line in the name of equality. Their courage helped change our nation and reminds us that the fight for justice requires vigilance in every generation.
