For many Idahoans, the Teton River is forever linked to this fateful day 50 years ago: June 5, 1976.

In the decades since the dam failed, both the canyon and the river have had an opportunity to recover. Anglers, hunters, boaters, and families again value this place.

The canyon and river are part of eastern Idaho’s identity, and today the Teton remains eastern Idaho’s only major river without a large dam and reservoir system altering its character.

The Teton River got a second chance. Let’s not squander it.

🪿🤩 Don’t mind us, we’ll just be marveling at the bounty of bird life that relies on La Ciénega de Santa Clara!

La Ciénega is a vital wetland in the Colorado River Delta that provides crucial habitat, food, and shelter for hundreds of thousands of birds who migrate north and south along the Pacific Flyway, including the Western Sandpiper, American Avocet, and Snowy Plover.

Unfortunately, some water users are reviving interest in restarting the Yuma Desalting Plant, an antiquated U.S. facility in southwestern Arizona that, if operated, would negatively impact this essential bird habitat.
