Local Solar Roadmap — Local Solar for All 12/08/2023

Aiming for a 95% emission reduction by 2050, the Local Solar Roadmap put forth an ambitious vision in 2020. We know now that we can be more aggressive thanks to policies like the Inflation Reduction Act. On the Roadmap’s third anniversary, discover our commitment to a cleaner, greener world and what it will take to get there. ☀️🌿

Local solar and storage, especially when they are virtual power plants, are essential to keeping our electric grid stable and affordable. We can’t win on climate change without it! In 2020, we showed how we can create $473 billion in savings. That’s only the start of how VPPs and local solar will benefit families, communities, and our national economy.

Three years ago, the Local Solar Roadmap presented an ambitious future where rapid deployment of local solar + storage could create the lowest cost, cleanest future grid. What we were really saying was, like local solar and storage are essential to our clean energy transition.

We’re so glad to see some “successor” reports come out since our Roadmap, like the Department of Energy’s Virtual Power Plant Commercial Liftoff report. Check out how local solar and VPPs are our future. ▶︎ https://liftoff.energy.gov/vpp/

Commentary: The benefits of virtual power plants and solar in low-income communities | Energy News Network 11/14/2023

Tripling virtual power plant capacity — from 80 GW to 160 GW — by 2030 could save U.S. ratepayers $10 billion annually in grid costs.

With extreme weather and rolling blackouts on the rise, VPPs can help low-income communities shore up their energy security.
