Violence against women is never okay. Violence like what Dolores Huerta and the two little girls, Ana Murguia and Debra Rojas, (now adults) is not something you can sweep under the rug or turn away from ‘for the greater good.’
So many men have decided now is the time they care about CC because of what he did for chicanos. These same men are NOT fighting against ICE or standing up for immigrants today. Things that they can actually do to see results but they stay attacking women who are speaking up and keeping our communities educated and empowered.
Machismo and marianismo are colonial plagues in our society. It’s the reason we have maga latinos. They like seeing power on stage.
In order for us to heal from this we need to push these people out of our communities and ostracize them. They cannot be a part of our village until they have done the work to acknowledge the harm and pain they’ve done to us. If that.
My abuelo Pancho would tell me ‘ojo, mucho ojo,’ (meaning eye a lot of eye literally) meaning watch yourself or observe what’s happening. Today in our communities we must create connections where people feel safe coming forward and communities tight enough that we don’t let things like this happen.
🎥 Dolores Huerta into of her ted talk in 2019. Yall should watch.

The 2006 Great American Boycott showed what happens when immigrants stood up for their rights. United behind the cause there were ports shut down, schools emptied, farms with crops left on the vine.
Twenty years later, we’re seeing that same playbook in Minneapolis and nationwide.
Different immigrants, same lesson: immigration is normal and withholding labor is still the most powerful leverage working people have.
When they said “A Day Without Immigrants,” they meant it. When today’s strikers walk out, they mean it too.
