Frank Kendall warned that Trumpโs Qatari-gifted jet was not ready to safely function like a real Air Force One. The Pentagonโs answer was not to explain the planeโs security gaps or answer his concerns. It stripped the former Air Force secretaryโs security clearance and announced the move in a post on X.
Kendall says he never disclosed classified information. He says nobody in the Trump administration contacted him, asked him what he said, identified the supposed classified material, or gave him a chance to respond. He found out through social media that his ability to access classified information and hold sensitive positions was gone.
The timing is impossible to ignore. Kendall had publicly questioned whether a $400 million Boeing 747-8 gifted by Qatar could receive the same sophisticated modifications as the presidential aircraft built over years at a cost of billions. Later reporting found that the jet lacked some of the advanced anti-missile and defensive capabilities of the older Air Force One.
Then Trump faced a credible threat during the NATO summit in Turkey. Secret Service reportedly urged him not to leave on the Qatari jet, and he secretly switched aircraft during an elaborate security operation. Kendallโs warning was not reckless speculation; it was a serious concern that events quickly reinforced.
Now Kendall has hired national-security attorney Mark Zaid and says he is suing. The larger question is whether the Trump administration can punish former officials for publicly questioning decisions that put the president, the press corps, and national security at risk. If government critics lose their clearances by tweet without due process, who will dare to speak up next time?

ICE is not just searching for undocumented immigrants. It is reportedly running a round-the-clock operation to hunt down people online who criticize the agency, track its actions, or say things officials decide are threatening. That should alarm every American who believes dissent is not a crime.
According to a new investigation, ICE contractors scour Facebook, Instagram, and X for posts about the agency. The information they reportedly compile can include names, dates of birth, employers, Social Security numbers, and vehicle records. Federal authorities have also reportedly sent hundreds of subpoenas to social media companies to unmask anonymous accounts.
ICE insists the operation targets genuine threats against agents. DHS claims death threats against ICE personnel have surged by 8,000 percent since Trump returned to office. But civil-rights lawyers and former DHS officials say the dragnet has repeatedly captured speech that is protected by the First Amendment.
That is where this gets darker. Reddit reportedly challenged subpoenas for 11 accounts that merely criticized federal actions, and the government withdrew them. Prosecutors have won cases involving real threats, but many of the people ICE identifies are never charged, leaving the unmasking itself to do the damage.
Trumpโs ICE does not need to win every case if the goal is to make ordinary people afraid to post, film agents, share information, or organize their communities. A government that treats criticism as a security threat is not protecting democracy. How long before speaking out against ICE becomes dangerous by design?

The press wanted Francesca Hong to explain why Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Bernie Sanders had not endorsed her. Hong refused to take the bait. Instead, she made clear that a Wisconsin governorโs race will be decided by Wisconsin voters, not a permission slip from Washington.
Hong praised both AOC and Sanders for their work to flip Congress and win Democratic races nationwide. But she said her campaignโs job is reaching every voter until the polls close. That is a sharp answer from a candidate who has built her campaign around organizing rather than elite validation.
Hong says her team held more than 320 events, traveled over 50,000 miles, and hit 24 cities in just four days. As a former service worker and self-described outsider, she says she knew she would have to out-hustle the political machine. That is what a movement looks like when it is built face to face instead of consultant to consultant.
The real contrast is not whether Bernie or AOC has weighed in. It is whether Wisconsin wants a governor who will put working people first or another politician who puts Trump and corporate donors first. Hong is campaigning on taxing the ultra-rich, raising wages, universal child care, fully funded public schools, and standing up to the data center takeover.
Change can scare political insiders because change threatens the people already holding power. Hongโs message is that the voters deserve more than fear, labels, and backroom approval. Will Wisconsin choose a governor willing to fight for working people?

This was not a routine presidential departure. It was a reported shell game involving three planes, a catering truck, a decoy Air Force One, and a press pool left in the dark. The White House put the image of Trump boarding the familiar presidential jet in front of cameras, then reportedly moved him off it minutes later.
According to Dan Lamotheโs reporting, Trump left Turkey on July 8 aboard a smaller Air Force C-32A after an Iranian threat triggered a major security operation. Pete Hegseth reportedly boarded the C-32A separately using external stairs, helping make the flight look like an ordinary VIP trip. The plane carrying Trump reportedly used the low-profile call sign Reach 18 while public flight tracking was unavailable.
Meanwhile, the larger jet that reporters and some White House staff believed carried Trump reportedly flew on using the Air Force One call sign. That is the detail Lamothe says makes this extraordinary. The call sign meant to identify the presidentโs aircraft was reportedly attached to a plane without the president aboard.
Security precautions are one thing. But this operation reportedly went far beyond shielding Trump from a threat, constructing a public illusion while reporters were physically placed inside the decoy. The people assigned to document the presidency were not simply denied information. They were reportedly used as part of the cover story.
The White House may argue the stakes justified every move. But when an administration can turn Air Force One into a decoy and keep its own traveling press pool unaware, the line between necessary security and total information control gets dangerously thin. If the public cannot know where the president actually was, who gets to decide what truth looks like?

Zohran Mamdani is not doing what his critics spent months warning about. He is putting lids on garbage cans. In New York City, that is a bigger deal than it sounds because loose black trash bags have been part of sidewalk life for decades.
Mamdaniโs administration is expanding the cityโs containerization program with locked, on-street Empire Bins. The bins will replace mountains of trash bags outside medium- and high-density buildings and will be collected by automated side-loading sanitation trucks, resulting in cleaner sidewalks, less leaking garbage, and fewer opportunities for rats to feast.
Six more community districts are set to receive full containerization by the end of 2027. That will bring the total to eight of New York Cityโs 59 community districts without residential trash bags piled on the street. The broader goal is to containerize all residential waste citywide by the end of 2031.
This is what competent progressive government looks like. It is not flashy, and it is not a cable-news spectacle. It is seeing a daily quality-of-life problem, building the infrastructure to solve it, and following through block by block.
The right-wing smear machine promised that Mamdani would bring chaos to New York. Instead, he is bringing rat-resistant trash bins, cleaner neighborhoods, and a plan that treats public space like it belongs to the people who live there. Why do basic improvements suddenly sound radical when progressives deliver them?

The Republican National Committee is already talking like November is over. Chair Joe Gruters says the GOP will hold both the House and Senate, claiming Republicans will win 10 of 18 House toss-up seats. That confidence comes while his party clings to a razor-thin 218 to 212 House advantage.
Gruters says Republicans need only six more seats to secure the House majority. He is betting that attacks on progressives, immigrants, and so-called socialism will be enough to overcome voter frustration with Trumpโs agenda. But he is selling a message built on fear while families are still struggling to afford groceries, housing, and health care.
Democrats are not sitting back. The DCCC has added 12 more Republican-held or Republican-leaning districts to its offensive list, bringing the total battlefield to 58 GOP seats. Many of those districts were won by Trump by double digits just two years ago.
That is why Grutersโ prediction matters. He is trying to project strength while Republicans face a national map shaped by affordability anger, backlash to the Iran war, and Trumpโs chaotic second-term agenda. Even Republicans who once thought their districts were safe now have to explain what their party has delivered.
And Gruters gave away the RNCโs real priority when asked about Max Miller. Facing serious allegations from his ex-wife, Miller still got the same answer from the party chair: Republicans will support their nominees because they need to keep power. Will voters let the GOP keep treating accountability as optional?
