KCPD is requesting the publicโ€™s assistance. If anyone sees or has information on the whereabouts of Oscar Sanchez-Munoz, 22, of Independence, Mo., call 911 immediately.

Sanchez-Munoz is wanted in a homicide and shootings that occurred mainly along I-70 on Tuesday evening, leading to a standoff at a house in Independence.

Overnight the scene was maintained by a combination of Independence Police and Blue Springs Police until the house was deemed by fire personnel safe to enter. The house was cleared by Blue Springs Police at approximately 8 a.m. before turning over the residence to Independence Police and did not locate the subject.

This morning, at approximately 10 a.m., Independence Police turned over the scene in the 700 block of Brookside to Kansas City Police Homicide Detectives to thoroughly process for evidence and continue the search for the subject of interest.

KCPD Detectives worked with Fire Department Personnel, as well as Missouri State Fire Marshalls to include K-9s to thoroughly examine the burned house. As of this afternoon, a search of the property and house has yet to locate the subject of interest.

While processing the scene at the house, other investigators with Kansas City Police continued investigative measures to locate the subject. Those measures remain ongoing and the subject has not yet been located.

The vehicle believed to be involved in last night's shootings was located at the residence on Brookside and is in police custody. Oscar Sanchez-Munoz (09-17-2003) has a warrant in Wyandotte County for Aggravated Assault with a 100K bond.

On World Elder Abuse Awareness Day, we are reminded that scams targeting older adults remain one of the most common and harmful forms of financial exploitation in our communities.

Last week, an employee at Discount Smokes & Liquor South, James Williams, recognized an active Bitcoin scam involving an elderly customer being pressured to send a large sum of money and immediately contacted law enforcement when the situation did not stop.

Officers responded and were able to intervene before approximately $25,000 was transferred to a suspect falsely claiming to be a federal agent. The customer was safely prevented from becoming a victim of financial exploitation.

For his quick action and commitment to protecting a community member, James Williams was recognized by Chief Munsterman and the Warrensburg Police Department with a challenge coin.

Elder abuse and financial scams often rely on urgency, fear, and isolation. Today serves as an important reminder to pause, verify, and never send money under pressure.
