The school year is over. It is a good time to do swim lessons. I have been a swim coach and a learn to swim instructor for 45 years. I get a majority of my students floating in the water, sculling and able to swim 25 yards within the 2 - 5 lessons time frame. The age group 2 - 5 years is an exception because there can be extreme levels of fear of the water and little awareness of what their arms and legs are doing.
I also do adult swim lessons. I did group adult swim lessons at the University of Houston to class sizes of 10 - 20 people. I would have the entire class able to swim the length of the pool in 2 weeks.
My wife and I move to Waco the end of May 2022 to be close to the grandkids.
I charge $50 per half an hour and work mainly out of private pools.
I did swim lesson in the Greater Houston and Galveston Area. To travel some distance I would like to have 3 - 4 lessons at one pool. Two summers ago, a Kingwood family lined up 10 - 15 learn to swim children every Saturday for 6 week period of time.

Eliminate distractions while supervising children around water. Leave your phone in the car, be attentive while talking to friends, and stay alert. It only takes a few seconds to lose your child around the water and less than a minute for a drowning to occur. Be diligent and know where your kids are at all times when around water!
Here's Hollis, age 3, after two lessons! It's fun to see kids having fun in the water!

Never leave a young child unattended near water and do not trust a child's life to another child; teach children to always ask permission to go near the water.

Teaching my grandson, Benjamin, to swim! It's fun seeing him relax and enjoy the water.

I had some of those breakthrough moments this morning. Two brothers, the oldest did three strokes and breath with his arms coming out of the water and over the water, the whole length of the pool. The youngest (3yrs.) swam on his back the width of the pool and kept his head back in the water. It was an enjoyable and happy morning at the pool. Way to go, Ashdin and Kamron!
What keeps a swim instructor in the swim lesson business? The days are often too hot or cold. The water temperature is often the same way. Some children cry or scream through the entire first lesson. An adult will grab your arm with enough force to break you arm. That is mild to the cuts and slashes one can receive, from an adult female afraid of the water and in a panic state of mind. One terrified adult climbed up my body climbed up my body and came at rest atop of my shoulders and head with her body completely out of the water.Swim lessons are physically demanding and often emotionally and mentally tiring.
Swim instructors stay in the business, because nothing beats the moment a person realizes, they do not have to be afraid of the water anymore. Watching a child realize that he/she is staying on top of the water through their own skill and abilities, never grows old.
The same process occurs with adults. Teaching adults how to swim has the added pleasure of watching people that have been afraid of water and avoiding water their whole lives completely change. One lady I taught how to swim was 66 years old when she learned to swim. She told me she was so happy that she could enjoy the water and did not have to be terrified every time she got near any body of water.
