“Stronger neighborhoods start by supporting each other.”

A strong neighborhood is more than a collection of homes and streets. It is a community of people who notice what is happening around them and find meaningful ways to help.

The beginning of a new school year offers a special reminder of what can happen when neighbors show up. Local businesses provide school supplies, churches open their doors, schools create opportunities for families to connect, and residents share resources with those who may need them.

In our latest blog, we reflect on the people and organizations already investing in local families and the importance of building on the strengths that exist within our community.

Every act of support matters, and every neighbor has a role in helping our communities grow stronger.

Our Roof Repair Program is returning for 2026!

Grassroots Community Development will soon begin accepting applications for its Roof Repair Program, created to help eligible City of Waco households with needed roof repairs.

Details about the application process, eligibility requirements, and how to apply will be announced soon.

Applications open September 21 and will remain open through November 9.

This fall, we're turning community care into action.

On November 14, Grassroots Community Development and the City of Waco are bringing volunteers together in South Waco for Fall Into Action, a morning dedicated to helping local homeowners care for their properties and neighborhoods.

A few hours can make a meaningful difference and we'd love to have you be part of it.

Today, we pause to remember the lives lost on September 11, 2001, honor the courage of those who responded, and hold close the families and communities forever changed by that day.

May we continue to carry forward the spirit of compassion, unity, and service that brought people together in the days that followed.

We remember. We honor. We will never forget.

In observance of Labor Day, the Grassroots Community Development office will be closed as we take time to recognize the dedication and contributions of workers throughout our community.

We hope everyone enjoys a safe and restful Labor Day with family and friends.

We look forward to serving you again when our office reopens tomorrow, September 8, during regular business hours.

The Waco Financial Empowerment Center (FEC) will provide free, one-on-one counseling designed around each person’s unique needs and goals.

Counselors will offer personalized support in five key areas:
Credit
Debt
Savings
Banking
Legacy planning

This new public service will help Waco residents build confidence, make informed financial decisions, and create a stronger path forward.

We are honored to support West Avenue Elementary's PTO this year by connecting community resources with campus staff and families. This photo was taken at the first PTO meeting of the school year, where West Avenue Elementary welcomed 35-40 family and staff participants. We love seeing the community come together to support student learning and success.

Last academic year, we had the privilege of partnering with the campus through Lunch and Learn sessions focused on leadership development and community building. Those conversations led to an action plan to strengthen campus-wide communication.

We are excited to continue partnering with West Avenue as they implement that plan and enhance communication both on and off campus. We are proud to support the campus leadership, staff, families, and students who make this community so special!

¡Cuando las familias y las escuelas trabajan juntas, suceden cosas increíbles!

Nos sentimos honrados de apoyar este año al PTO de la Escuela Primaria West Avenue, conectando recursos comunitarios con el personal escolar y las familias. Esta foto fue tomada durante la primera reunión del PTO del ciclo escolar, donde West Avenue dio la bienvenida a entre 35 y 40 participantes, entre familiares y miembros del personal. Nos encanta ver a la comunidad unirse para apoyar el aprendizaje y el éxito de los estudiantes.

El año académico pasado tuvimos el privilegio de colaborar con la escuela a través de sesiones de Lunch and Learn enfocadas en el desarrollo de liderazgo y el fortalecimiento de la comunidad. De esas conversaciones surgió un plan de acción para fortalecer la comunicación en todo el campus.

Nos entusiasma continuar colaborando con West Avenue mientras implementan ese plan y fortalecen la comunicación tanto dentro como fuera de la escuela. ¡Nos sentimos orgullosos de apoyar al liderazgo escolar, al personal, a las familias y a los estudiantes que hacen de esta comunidad algo tan especial!
