It’s official - the Waco Welcome Center just got a bright new glow! ✨
Yesterday, we celebrated the official unveiling of the Welcome Center’s custom neon sign - the final touch to our new home downtown! 🎉🩵
A special thank you to Mayor Holmes, Councilmember Barefield, Councilmember Ewing, City Manager Holt, and all the city staff who joined to celebrate this milestone with us!

We’re excited to share that Destination Waco brought home two awards from last week’s Destinations Texas Annual Conference, in recognition of our tourism and marketing efforts!🏆
Competing against top destinations across the state in our budget category, our team was awarded the following Destination Excellence Awards:
🥇 1st Place - Meetings & Conventions Promotion: Awarded for our new tradeshow booth that showcases our vibrant new destination branding, in partnership with the Waco Tourism Public Improvement District.
🥉 3rd Place - Sports Promotion: Recognized for our efforts in bringing the Major League Fishing tournament to our local lakes, alongside the Greater Waco Sports Commission and Waco TPID, which placed Waco in the national spotlight.
To top off a fantastic week, our Chief Destination Development Officer, Lisa Blackmon, took the stage as a featured panelist to share about how Waco has reimagined the approach to the traditional tourist information center with our Welcome Center and Mobile Welcome Center, which have redefined the experience for our visitors.
We’re so proud to represent Waco and celebrate the power of strong community partnerships! ❤️🎉

I-35 TRAFFIC WEEKEND IMPACT 🚧 Texas Department of Transportation has an overnight main lane closure this Saturday at 7 p.m. between New Rd. & 17th St. that’s expected to impact traffic on I-35 through Sunday morning.
Our suggestion? 👉 Skip the bumper-to-bumper blues with a fun detour instead - grab dinner or drinks at one of downtown’s dining hotspots! 🍝🍸✨
Waco is wide open and ready for you, even when I-35 isn’t!
➡️ Note: Most cross-street bridges in that stretch will also be closed, so use New Rd. or 12th St. for east and westbound crossings!

I-35 TRAFFIC WEEKEND IMPACT 🚧 Texas Department of Transportation has a major 24-hour main lane closure beginning TONIGHT between New Rd. & 12th St. that’s expected to impact traffic on I-35 throughout the weekend.

I-35 WACO SOUTH | Beginning Friday night, TxDOT and its contractor will begin removal of the South Valley Mills Drive direct connect to northbound I-35 as part of the My35 Waco South Construction Project.
Work will take approximately 24 hours and require closure of:
• All I-35 mainlanes between New Road and 12th Street
• East/westbound crossings at 17th & 18th Streets, Valley Mills Drive, and Irving Lee Street/Primrose Drive
Following the removal, the Irving Lee Street/Primrose Drive underpass will remain closed for an additional 14 days for drainage and utility work, with reopening anticipated on Saturday, Aug. 22.
These closures will allow crews to safely remove the direct connect and begin preparations to construct the new Diverging Diamond Intersection (DDI) planned for the area.

The Waco Mammoth National Monument was recently featured in Morning Brew’s Sunday special on America’s National Parks. With a readership of more than 4 million, the feature shines a spotlight on one of Waco’s most remarkable destinations, from its active Columbian mammoth dig site to the passionate volunteers who bring its history to life.
It’s fantastic national exposure for Waco and another reminder that our city is home to experiences you won’t find anywhere else. ✨
