We installed a custom-sized shower pan designed to better fit the homeowner’s shower chair, built a fully sealed waterproof shower system, added a custom niche for storage, installed grab bars for safety, and finished it off with a frameless glass shower door to help keep water where it belongs — inside the shower.

This bathroom remodel in Woodway, TX was all about making the space fit the family living in the home now.

The bathroom originally had a walk-in tub/shower unit, which can be a great option for homeowners with mobility needs. But once a young family with children bought the home, that setup just didn’t make sense for their everyday life anymore.

So we removed the walk-in tub system and converted the space back into a clean, classic, and practical tub/shower combo.

🚿 From builder-grade to five-star hotel feel right at home.

This bathroom started with a cramped builder-grade shower that was leaking and growing mold in the corner. Once we opened it up, we found the real problem: the original shower was simply not built correctly. No matter how good the tile looked on the outside, the system behind it was never going to last.

So we tore it out and completely reworked the space.

We removed the old leaking shower, took out the small drop-in tub, and expanded the shower by taking over a small linen closet. That allowed us to create a much larger custom walk-in shower without adding onto the room.

We also added backlit niches for both the tub and shower, installed a new freestanding bathtub, updated the tile, lighting, fixtures, and gave the whole bathroom a much smarter layout.

The best part? The bathroom itself is not physically bigger, but it feels dramatically larger, brighter, and more open because the space is being used so much better.

This one went from builder-grade and failing to clean, modern, functional, and spa-like.

🚿 What’s Behind the Tile Matters

Here’s a homeowner warning that could save you thousands:

If your contractor is installing regular drywall inside your shower… that is a major red flag.

A shower can look beautiful on the outside and still be completely wrong behind the tile. The real protection is not the tile itself — it’s the waterproof system behind it.

At Stockyard Refacing + Remodeling, we build custom showers using proper shower backer board, sealed seams, sealed fasteners, waterproof shower pans, and topically applied waterproofing designed to keep water where it belongs: inside the shower, not inside your walls.

We also believe every shower pan should be flood tested for a minimum of 6 hours before any tile is installed on the pan. That extra step helps confirm the pan is holding water properly before everything gets covered up.

We’ve been called out to look at showers less than a year old that were already leaking because outdated methods, poor prep work, improper materials, or skipped waterproofing steps were used. That usually means water damage, mold concerns, damaged framing, failed tile, and expensive repairs that could have been avoided.

We recently completed this custom shower remodel in Moody, Texas, and the difference is night and day!

Cabinet refinishing is won or lost in the prep work. At Stockyard Refacing + Remodeling, we believe a beautiful cabinet painting finish starts long before the final coat goes on. For this project, we started by thoroughly sanding the original red oak drawer front, then applied an oil-based primer for strong adhesion and durability. After that, we sanded to 220 grit, filled every ding, dent, and visible grain line we wanted corrected, then sprayed the first top coat. Once that cured, we sanded again to 320 grit and applied the final finish coat. Extra steps? Absolutely.
