Customer told me the 50X oil objective on their Olympus BX43 wasn't working. That was pretty easy to figure out. Someone took this objective apart and put it back together WRONG!

Customer said the fluorescence lamp (mercury arc lamp) wouldn't ignite. I suppose not when it had so many hours on it you can't see through it anymore. Good thing it didn't explode because that causes a LOT more problems

A customer brought me this old Leitz Ortholux II. He's a hobbyest (retired surgeon) and wanted a much microscope. He didn't have the power supply and told me I could convert it to LED, which I did. The quality of the light is great and I was, with some effort able to tuck the electronics in the base.

Here are a couple of Zeiss microscopes. One from about 40 years ago and one from this year.

Microscope service isn't just about cleaning optics and lubricating mechanical parts. This microscope, a Leica DMI3000B Inverted microscope wasn't producing the colors the user needed. And it wasn't just on the computer screen, the color that the user needed wasn't coming through the eyepieces. I tried a number of color filters with no results. When I switched the light to an LED bulb that's what it took.
Then of course I cleaned the optics and overhauled the Coarse/Fine focus system and stage movement.
That's the over 4 decades of experience I bring when you hire me.

Over the years I have gotten pretty good taking care of these small surgical microscope. Most of these are used by oral surgeons. And like most doctors they were never really taught how to use their microscope. I'm glad to be of help.

Because yesterday was so gloomy I stayed in an modernized this old American Optical Series 10 microscope. I think I may have modified it over 30 years ago when the original power supply failed. But now it has an LED light source and the image quality is really good.

On Wednesday I went to Scripps Research in La Jolla to swap out the main body of this research microscope. I have been taking care of the top microscopes for over 10 years. This microscope is used to study live brain cells by a a number of neuroscientists and to keep those cheeks alive the cells need to be immersed is saline. Sometimes they spill that saline and that takes a tole on the microscope. So the customer found a used model of pretty much the same microscope to replace the base. I was tasked to switch everything over and get everything to work together.
