Twist Out Cancer
Twist Out Cancer is a global community that provides social and emotional support to those touched by cancer. Thus: Twist Out Cancer was born.
Twist Out Cancer (TOC) was built on the belief that when you share, the world opens up. At the age of 29, Jenna Benn Shersher was diagnosed with grey zone lymphoma—a rare form of cancer which affects less than 300 people in the United States. Midway through treatment, Jenna, a dancer at heart, was isolated due to her compromised immune system. Alone and longing for the days when she could dance fr

This Father's Day weekend, we are celebrating dads like Marty Hogan. 💙
When Marty was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia shortly after getting married and learning he was expecting his first child, he needed something to hold onto. For Marty, that something was simple and everything at the same time: he wanted to walk his child to kindergarten.
That goal carried him through treatment. That is the kind of love that moves mountains. 🧡
Marty is a leukemia survivor, Twist Out Cancer board member, and founder of Windsor Tough, a nonprofit focused on growing the blood stem cell donor registry. Through Brushes with Cancer and the Runway of Resilience, he has seen firsthand how sharing your story and finding community can be just as healing as any treatment.
"His story is a testament to the importance of self-advocacy and the support of loved ones during difficult times."
Listen to Marty's full story on the Twist Out Cancer podcast, hosted by fellow board member Soraya Fata.

And if Marty's story moves you, consider registering as a blood stem cell donor through Windsor Tough at http://windsortough.org . One registration could save a life, and maybe help another dad make it to kindergarten. 🎒
Happy Father's Day weekend to all the dads in our community. 💙

Happy Juneteenth.
Today we honor the end of slavery in the United States and celebrate the strength, resilience, and contributions of Black communities throughout history and today.
Juneteenth is a reminder that freedom, equity, and access matter—and that there is still important work to be done to ensure everyone has the opportunity to thrive.
As part of that commitment, we are honored to highlight organizations working to support and empower Black individuals and families impacted by cancer:

“Art has a way of expressing the depth of what words cannot capture, and I wanted to be part of something that honored the stories that often go unheard. Stories that can fill the world with inspiration and hope. Stories that can heal.” Charlotte S
Some experiences are too big for words alone.
That is exactly why Brushes with Cancer exists. Over six months, artists and individuals touched by cancer come together to build something real, a relationship, a piece of art, and a story that deserves to be seen and heard.
Every canvas.
Every brushstroke.
Every connection made.
It all starts with someone being brave enough to share. 💙
If you feel called to be part of something like this, we would love to have you. Learn more and stay connected at http://twistoutcancer.org/events-calendar/

Jeffrey Froggett of Grosse Pointe Farms, Michigan participated in Brushes with Cancer as a caregiver for his wife Julie. His words say it all:
"Being a caregiver is no easy ride. You are mentally and physically exhausted, but positivity remains the best medicine for the one you love. Don't give up. Don't ever give up."
Artist Ta**us Burns listened. He sat with Jeffrey's story, his love for Julie, and his quiet strength as a father holding his family together through unimaginable grief. And from those conversations, he created "An Enduring Faith" — an oil on canvas that captures exactly what Jeffrey described. A father, standing strong for his daughters, carrying the light that Julie left behind.
That is what Brushes with Cancer does. It takes the stories that live inside of us and gives them a place to breathe. 🎨🧡
To every dad who has shown up for their family through a cancer journey, who has held it together even when it was hard, who has loved fiercely and kept going — we see you. Happy Father's Day. 💙

"This was a different kind of therapeutic healing. I needed to take all the parts of my journey out of the jewelry box and lay them on the bed. Now I'm ready to untangle." — Jennifer U.
That's what Brushes with Cancer can do. Over six months, Inspirations and artists work together to tell a story that might otherwise stay unspoken.

"Participating in Brushes with Cancer Winter 2026 was both a challenge and a joy. While most of my artwork tells my own story or feeling, the challenge for me was figuring out how to 'get inside' of my Inspiration to tell her story. And that was where the joy came in." 🎨
That's Carolyn Siegel, one of our Brushes with Cancer Winter 2026 artists. See her work and the story behind it at the link in bio.
