The International, our constitution, NECA, and our contractors all push for labor to maintain a “relationship” w management but management demands it to be a submissive relationship w labor giving in to their whims and not pushing issues in hopes for more scraps from management’s table to fall down to the workers……Labor. For 25 years I’ve watched the system not work and others have for even longer than that. The only relationship needing to be had between management and labor should be a mutual respect that both are going to follow our language and supply each other with what the other needs!!! Labor needs a living wage that eliminates the necessity of labor to work overtime, improved job-site conditions, improved healthcare that is solely paid for by management, an apprenticeship that we can be proud to turn out the best trained most well rounded Journeyman Wiremen, and a pension contribution rate increase that provides for us to retire at 55 or sooner & not be forced to work overtime weekly with no PTO until we die!!!

It was an honor to represent our Local as Delegate to the 40th IBEW Convention in Chicago this month. Delegates are charged with voting for our International President, International Secretary Treasurer, International Executive Council Chairman, International District Vice President’s, International Executive Council District representatives, Resolutions and Amendments of our Constitution, and appeals of officers charged among other delegate duties over the course of the Convention week. Lots of changes are coming to our IBEW and stay tuned to our Local Union for specific updates. Conventions are held every 5 years with the 40th being postponed due to the ongoing Pandemic because of the seriousness of the business to be handled. I thank fellow delegates for conducting themselves as they were elected to by our local union’s and our members for the opportunity to represent Local 613 at this important of a duty. Look forward to what’s to come next!

Another great Labor Day had with our Brothers and Sisters in the Labor Movement at the annual Atlanta N. Ga. Labor Council’s Labor Day Event. This year’s was a great change up with a march from our IBEW building(Atlanta’s House of Labor) to our Gold Dome with a mini Rally then return march back, followed by box lunches and beverages. Awesome to see new 613 members come out and get involved with the festivities. Thanks James Williams and the rest of our Local Labor Council for a great event for Labor, by Labor!
