Summer vacation is almost here, and it's time to start thinking about educational summer activities. I am a private virtual tutor with experience teaching children and teens with special needs, including dyslexia, ASD, ADD/ADHD, and general learning difficulties. I understand first hand what it is like to be autistic because I am "on the spectrum." While students may currently on grade level, summer "brain drain" can lead to them falling behind and not entering the new school year with their abilities on-target.

I am 29 years old, and I have being tutoring off and on since 2002. My experience is quite varied. I have taught basic computer skills, English, ESOL, math, science, social studies, and music theory.

I have also worked with students with behavioral issues. I use positive reinforcement and I explain why the problem behavior is unacceptable. For example, I had one student that earned stars for good behavior. Another student loves gaming, so if he participates and behaves himself, we play a Jeopardy game once a week that is based on the material of the week.

Lastly, I believe that everybody can learn. They may take the "Road Less Travelled," but there is always a way to reach a child.
