These words come to us from Ava Bethel:
"I want to encourage Leaders who are faithfully serving smaller congregations.
There is a silent pressure that can come with leading a smaller work and it’s definitely not because the people are small. The people God has trusted to your care are weighty, valuable, full of potential, and worth the investment. The pressure often comes from comparison, numbers, questions, and the weight of wondering if what you are building is enough.
But listen it is a tragedy to think that because you are small in number, you are not making a big impact.
God does not measure faithfulness by crowd size. He measures faithfulness by obedience, stewardship, purity, consistency, and your heart posture as a leader.
It takes a lot to disciple people WELL. It takes intention, attention, patience, correction, consistency, and the willingness to keep showing up for people while they are still being formed. That kind of work often happens best in smaller settings because smaller settings allow leaders to see, hear, discern, correct, and cultivate with greater care.
A smaller congregation does not mean a lesser assignment and it does not mean your labor is insignificant. Sometimes God entrusts leaders with fewer people because He is building depth, order, culture, and foundation before He ever brings increase.
There will always be those who will not submit to that process. Some will resist correction. Some will avoid accountability. Some will want the benefits of covering without yielding to the discipline that covering requires. As a leader, you cannot take every person’s lack of discipline to heart as though it is proof that you have failed.
That does not mean you are a perfect leader and it does not mean they are prepared for what the process requires. Two things can be happening at the same time.
Do not despise the people God has trusted you to shepherd. Do not allow the pressure of what others appear to be building make you mishandle what God placed in your hands.
Lead well. Serve faithfully. Teach soundly. Love deeply. Build carefully. Keep discipling. Keep giving attention to the ones who are willing to be formed.
Big impact is not always measured by how many people are in the room. It is measured by how deeply the people in the room are being transformed."
Teach your children to depend on God.
