Mother’s Day frames- Metal tooling and wood. So much fun!

Long time late in posting but here are pics from our first project. We began in January with Martin Luther King Jr’s “I have a dream” idea. Then listens to “What a wonderful world” by Louis Armstrong. We talked about our ideal world, future, or favorite spot and place of calm. Then students created that works in their eye. We used Monolith Graphite Sets and first created value scales to see the different intensity of the pencils. Then using the grid technique of Chuck Close, enlarged images of their eyes to draw them as accurately as possible. They worked so hard!! It took a lot longer than originally planned, but with ages ranging from 7-12, they did a FANTASTIC job!

Had so much fun with this final project! It was exciting to see the difference in students and their approach- some painted with total abandon while others took care to treat each individual space as its own composition.

Looked at the painted windows of Marc Chagall, talked about things that make us happy, and then painted our own!

Finally getting around to posting these! Students asked me to wait because many were gifts. Also forgot to photograph half of them! I’m usually too caught up to remember!

Still life studies complete- rest to come next week. Can you spot the styles? Chalk and oil pastels, cubist collagraph prints, expressionist paint. VanGogh, Cezanne, Picasso- we had fun!

Matisse inspired name plates to start off this first session!!! Great opening project to assess their level, sense of design/color/movement. Lots of new students this term. So excited by these young artists!!! No pencils, drawing with scissors! Go bold!
