We spotted this famous visitor out front during the ViVa! Vienna! Memorial Day Weekend Festival, thanks to a wonderful video recap captured by Melody Yazdani Studios.

We sure hope George enjoyed some delicious bites and sips from our downstairs tenants at Toastique - Vienna while he was here!

Even with the rainy weather, seeing all the photos and videos from Viva Vienna has warmed our hearts. We really do have the best community. 💜💚

And speaking of hearts…did anyone snap a photo in front of the Rustic Love Vienna Hearts & Home Mural on our building? Please share — we’d love to see them!

The start of Memorial Day weekend often brings people home — gathering with family, slowing down a bit, and spending time in the places that matter most. 🇺🇸

It’s also a time to reflect on the sacrifice behind those freedoms and remember the individuals and families forever changed by service to our country.

Wishing everyone a peaceful holiday weekend.

This question is so important, and we always appreciate when homeowners ask it.

In a fast-growing, ever-changing region like the DC metro area, longstanding experience matters.

Over four decades, we’ve worked through evolving home styles, permitting requirements, construction challenges, and the unique needs of homeowners throughout the region — and that experience directly benefits our clients today.

It’s one of the many things that sets Commonwealth Home Design apart: a refined process, a tightly coordinated team, and the ability to guide complex remodeling projects with care, communication, and attention to detail.

Tucked into the Blue Ridge Mountains near Charlottesville, VA, this restored 1870s log cabin retreat feels like stepping into another era — with modern comfort woven in.

This unique Commonwealth Home Design project combined historic preservation, adaptive design, and creative problem-solving to transform two original cabins into one unforgettable mountain getaway.

The result is a warm, rustic-modern escape surrounded by 400 acres of woods, complete with a glass-walled great room, expansive porch, stone fireplaces, and a classic “dog trot” design reimagined for modern living.

Even better? You can actually stay here! (See link in comments)

If you’re looking for a close-but-feels-worlds-away weekend getaway, the cabin is available to rent for winery weekends, family gatherings, UVA events, or simply unplugging for a few days in the mountains.

Projects like this showcase the versatility of our team and the kind of creative, detail-driven thinking that thoughtful remodeling and restoration work require.

From dark, dated finishes and heavy contrast to a bright, refreshed kitchen designed for modern living. 🪄✨

This recently completed remodel transformed a 1998 Vienna brick colonial with lighter finishes, improved flow, and a more open, updated feel while still honoring the scale and character of the home.

The oversized island, layered neutrals, warm wood flooring, and soft natural light through a gridless window completely changed the energy of the space.

More before-and-afters from this transformation coming soon. 👀

Moms come in many forms. 🐾

After Commonwealth Home Design’s 40th anniversary party wrapped up, Ginger stopped by to check out the scene — cautiously, of course. She’s still learning that the world can be safe, kind, and full of treats. 🐕 ❤️ 🐕

Recently adopted by the Pierces’ daughter, Ginger is settling into her new life with the kind of love every dog deserves: patient, protective, nurturing, and full of gentle training along the way.

This Mother’s Day, we’re celebrating all the moms, mother figures, and caregivers who help the ones they love feel safe enough to grow. 🫶

Happy Mother’s Day from Commonwealth Home Design. 💖

Commonwealth Home Design was proud to sponsor Wolftrap Elementary’s Pajama Jog 5K and Fun Run again this year. 🛌🏃‍♀️🌙

The event supports the Wolftrap PTA in raising essential funds to enrich students’ educational experience — with plenty of fun throughout the day, including the race, music, awards, cake walk, basket raffles, post-race treats, and, of course, lots of pajamas.

Wolftrap also holds a special place in Commonwealth Home Design’s story. Owner and architect Susan Pierce attended Wolftrap Elementary from kindergarten through sixth grade, making this a wonderful opportunity to give back to a school community that has given so much to so many.
