Our goal here at Samurai Academics is to make educational success within every child's reach

Instead of dry exercises that have no relationship to reading, Grammar Galaxy uses short, entertaining stories to teach language arts concepts in a memorable way. The accompanying workbook is no workbook at all, but a Mission Manual asking your student to help save the galaxy from the chaos the Gremlin creates.

Author Melanie Wilson wanted to create an easy-to-use language arts curriculum children enjoy that also teaches for mastery rather than repeating the same concepts year after year. The result is the Grammar Galaxy curriculum. In spite of the title, the series covers much more than grammar, also addressing vocabulary, spelling, composition, literature, and speech.

The premise of this grammar program is to help students transfer grammatical knowledge into actual writing. This curriculum puts the students in the place of editors as they spend 15 minutes daily fixing sentences and looking up vocabulary and then re-writing these sentences into a notebook, which cumulatively form a cohesive story over the course of the program.

Early readers will start with Hooked on Phonics Learn to Read which teaches kids the basic skills needed to become confident readers. Students will listen to phonics songs, utilize workbooks filled with activities and stories, flashcards, as well as 50 phonics books.

After completing the Learn to Read program students will graduate to the Hooked on Phonics Master Reader program. The Master Reader program teaches students to use advanced phonics skills through games, attention-grabbing stories, and the exciting Strange Museum chapter books to assist students in learning to read more fluently.

In addition to the reading already included in the Hooked on Phonics program students will also utilize both the Saxon Fluency Readers and Bob Book series to gain further practice and fluency in reading.

In the reading portion of Primary Arts of Language by IEW, students are introduced to letters through letter stories and discover the vowel and consonant pairs that help us read. Daily games played during “Activity Time” reinforce the phonetic concepts so that a student can know them completely.

Because this program does not come with readers, students will use both the Saxon Fluency Readers and Bob Books to further enforce phonetic concepts and build self-confidence in reading

Reading Comprehension in Varied Subject Matter features nonfiction reading passages covering social studies, science, literature, mathematics, philosophy, logic, language, the arts, and combined subjects. These passages are followed by comprehension questions including story recall, inferential questions, and writing prompts. Books are arranged thematically, with selections related to one another, to show different aspects of a topic and give students a broader knowledge of a subject. Topics and questions prepare students for standardized tests and provide valuable practice in nonfiction reading comprehension.
