WGL Energy

Today, we celebrate the people who help make our communities stronger every day, from our dedicated employees who support our customers to the partners, customers, and neighbors who contribute so much to the places we call home across our region. At WGL Energy, we are grateful for your hard work, commitment, and the positive difference you make throughout the year. We hope you enjoy a well-deserved Labor Day and have the opportunity to spend time with the people and activities that matter most to you.

As WGL Energy celebrated its 30th anniversary on our founding day, July 22, our lunch gatherings across our regional offices were made even more memorable thanks to the outstanding support of our catering partners. Our employees enjoyed the delicious food, festive atmosphere, and warm hospitality that helped make the day so special. Thank you for helping us celebrate this milestone and for making our 30th anniversary celebration one to remember!

As we enter the official start of summer, here are some practical energy tips to keep in mind:

Five Energy Saving Tips for the Start of Summer:

1. Optimize Cooling Systems
A preseason HVAC tune up can cut energy use by 10–15% and prevent mid summer failures. Clean filters, check refrigerant levels, and verify thermostat calibration to keep systems running efficiently during peak demand.

2. Leverage Smart Thermostat Settings
Raising indoor temperatures by just 1–2°F during work hours can significantly reduce load without sacrificing comfort. Smart thermostats automate these adjustments and provide usage analytics that help teams spot waste.

3. Shift High Load Activities
Encourage teams to run energy intensive equipment — data backups, manufacturing cycles, laundry, dishwashers — during early morning or late evening. This reduces strain on the grid and can lower costs for organizations on time of use rates.

4. Maximize Natural Light
Longer daylight hours are free energy. Opening blinds and rearranging workspaces to capture natural light reduces reliance on overhead fixtures and improves employee well being.

5. Seal and Shade Strategically
Simple steps like sealing air leaks, adding weatherstripping, or installing reflective window film can reduce cooling loss. Exterior shading — awnings, trees, or solar screens — can cut indoor heat gain by up to 30%.

This Memorial Day, WGL Energy honors the courageous men and women who gave everything in service to our nation. Their sacrifice inspires us, and we remain deeply grateful. Wishing you a safe and meaningful holiday weekend.

One way WGL Energy stays connected to the communities we serve is by supporting the environment and ecosystems we all share. As a retail energy supplier, we’re proud to offer renewable energy options that help our customers make more sustainable choices.

This Earth Day, we thank our employees across the region who partner with local organizations on tree plantings, oyster restoration projects, and other initiatives that support cleaner air and healthier waterways.

We look forward to continuing this commitment across our footprint for a more sustainable future.
