Residient Spotlight: Marilyn J was born on March 21st to Leonard and Charlotte K. in Detroit, Michigan. She grew up alongside her two brothers, Michael and Charles, and her sister, Dorothy. Marilyn attended St. Rita’s Grade School and continued her education at Our Lady of Mercy High School. She then followed her passion for helping others by enrolling at St. Joseph’s School of Nursing in Detroit, where she earned her Registered Nurse (RN) degree. Marilyn continued her academic journey at the University of Detroit Mercy, where she received her master’s degree. Marilyn began her nursing career at Henry Ford Hospital, working with pediatric patients. She later worked in a pediatric doctor’s office before discovering her love for teaching. Marilyn became a Professor of Nursing at Macomb Community College, where she made a lasting impact. Along with a colleague, she helped develop and obtain national accreditation for a Medical Office Assistant program. Together, they prepared students for certification, established co-op opportunities, and helped place students in positions to successfully complete their training. Marilyn met her husband, John, on a blind date. When she returned home, she told her mother and grandmother, “If someone named John calls, tell him I’m not home!” Fortunately, John called again, and the rest is history. They were married in May 1963, and built a beautiful family together, including their daughter Laura, sons Stephen and Matt, three granddaughters, and one grandson. Marilyn has always enjoyed an active and adventurous life. She loves skiing, golfing, boating, and fishing even baiting her own hook. Family ski trips created many treasured memories, and her travels have taken her to the Grand Canyon, California, Las Vegas, New York, Saint Martins and several western European countries. John describes Marilyn as happy, intelligent, hardworking, and loving. Here at Maris Pointe, we know Marilyn as someone with a quick smile, a wonderful sense of humor, and a joyful spirit. She enjoys participating in activities and brings laughter to those around her.

Nancy T. was born on May 23 to Ernest and Gert T. in North Smithfield, Rhode Island. She grew up with two brothers and is a proud aunt to one nephew and two nieces. Nancy graduated from high school in Rhode Island and later enjoyed working in retail for Tommy Bahama. In her mid-20s, Nancy moved to Florida, where she spent many years working as an Administrative Assistant at Venice High School. During her time there, she received numerous Achievement Awards and made a lasting impact on the school community. Nancy also coached women’s weightlifting, leading her teams to multiple championships, an accomplishment she is very proud of. In addition to coaching, Nancy competed in weightlifting herself and earned many trophies and awards. She proudly displays photos and memories of these achievements in her apartment here at Maris Pointe. Nancy has always enjoyed traveling, especially trips to Europe with her brother. She loves the outdoors, going to the gym, butterflies, and listening to music—particularly Prince and David Bowie. You can often spot Nancy wearing her David Bowie T-shirt from a concert she attended. One of Nancy’s greatest joys is spending time with her cousin Susan and Susan’s wife, Denise. They describe Nancy as helpful, caring, sensitive, funny, and someone who loves to talk with people and make them feel good about themselves. Here at Maris Pointe, we know Nancy as someone who is always willing to help, loves to organize, greets everyone with a warm smile, and truly enjoys a good laugh. We are so proud to celebrate Nancy of Maris Pointe.

It was a lovely early Valentine's Day celebration! The afternoon was filled with the sweet sounds of Hannah Falestiny, who sang love songs through the ages that had everyone smiling, singing along and reminiscing. Our tables were decorated with chocolates and special framed photos from our December glamour shots. These pictures were lovingly prepared by the residents as Valentine’s Day gifts for their family members — we hope you treasure them as much as they enjoyed creating them for you. To top it all off, our taste buds were delighted with a delicious dinner prepared by Chef Emily. Everything was wonderful, and most importantly, our residents had a fantastic time celebrating love, friendship and community.
Happy Valentine’s Day! ❤️

We recently had a wonderful flower arrangement class here at Maris Pointe. Our residents had so much fun creating their own beautiful arrangements for the dining tables. We’ll be enjoying their lovely creations over the next few days, and they truly add a special touch to our dining room. Please enjoy these fun photos and share them with family. 🌸
