Last week, Memorial’s 9th grade class celebrated the release of the 2025–2026 yearbook with a special Yearbook Distribution Party! Students had a great time signing each other’s yearbooks, enjoying snacks, and spending time with classmates and teachers as they reflected on a year full of memories, friendships, and accomplishments. A huge thank you to Mr. Connors, Ms. Jaeger, and the Yearbook Club for all of their hard work and dedication in creating a yearbook that will help preserve these memories for years to come.

Congratulations to South's Aidan Ashby, who has been selected to perform with the All-County Jazz Band next year. This is an exceptional honor, as Aidan is one of only five trumpet players and just 18 students county-wide to earn a seat in this prestigious ensemble.

Aidan's selection is the result of a rigorous evaluation process. He achieved a perfect score of 100 on a Level 6 All-State Jazz Solo at the New York State School Music Association (NYSSMA) festival, followed by a highly competitive live audition last week.

What makes this achievement truly remarkable is Aidan's rapid trajectory—he only began his jazz studies 18 months ago. When he initially set these highly ambitious goals, we discussed the immense dedication required to achieve them. Through his relentless work ethic, focus, and drive, he has completely realized his vision.

The Section VIII Badminton program was featured on “High School Heroes with Halftime Howie.” Central High School senior Wasif Ahmed was among seven Nassau County athletes selected for the segment. A two‑year captain with All‑Conference and All‑County honors, Wasif finished his career undefeated (28‑0) and led the Eagles to a Conference 2 Championship. Congratulations to Wasif for representing Central with excellence. Special thanks to Coach Guzzardo for his dedication to the program and its student‑athletes.

Students in the 8th grade science classes of Ms. Reid, Mr. Gonzalez, Mr. Philip, and Ms. Corrigan at Memorial Junior High School took learning outside for a fun and creative Science Chalk Walk! Taking advantage of the beautiful weather, they headed outdoors to illustrate science concepts from the year using colorful chalk along Memorial's front walkway. From diagrams and vocabulary to scientific processes and discoveries, the sidewalk became a showcase of student learning and creativity. It was a great way to celebrate a year of science while enjoying the sunshine!

Huge congratulations to our South student-athletes for their incredible performances at the NYS Track and Field Championships! The boys 4x100 relay (Xavier Cesar, Tyler Frazer, Andrew Reyes, Ethan Hinds) and girls 4x100 relay (Sameen Mir, Chinelo Obichere, Sarah Young, Lenora Jones) both earned All-State honors with 6th-place finishes.
