We honor our children's legacies by fighting to end gun violence. #remembertheirnames
Eight children and teens were killed early Sunday in a mass shooting in Shreveport, Louisiana, authorities said. The suspected shooter is also dead, according to police.
“I don’t know what people think in the crevices of their mind to want to harm another human being, let alone that of children who have their whole life ahead of them,” Shreveport City Councilwoman Tabatha Taylor said at a news conference following the shooting.
Thank you to everyone who has signed up for the 21 for 21 challenge starting May 1st. We are grateful that you continue to honor the 21 and want to share more about how your support will bring real change.
Lives Robbed Stands Together is the sister organization of our politically focused organization, Lives Robbed Stands Up. Stands Together is how we give back and it’s rooted in our daughters’ kindness and love. You can see on our website that the mission of Stands Together is to honor our daughters’ lives and legacies by raising public awareness and putting a face to the victims of the gun violence epidemic. We were able to do that last year with our photo exhibit “77 Minutes in Their Shoes”.
We strongly believe in supporting our teachers. This will be our third year presenting the Mr Arnulfo “Arnie” Reyes Award to a teacher who goes above and beyond in the classroom and in their community. At the start of each school year, we not only share supply lists for Uvalde teachers, we also buy what we can to make sure every list is cleared.
We know the importance of supporting our Uvalde community. During the holidays, we donate meals for Thanksgiving and gifts to children in need at Christmas. We work with and donate to the other non-profits started by families of the 21 to make sure their loved ones and their legacies are never forgotten.
But we hope to do more! And your donations make that possible.
Three years ago, Abby McLean’s children were just 5, 9, and 11 years old when they survived the shooting at the Covenant School in Nashville, Tennessee. What followed wasn’t just grief, but years of living with what that day changed — something both children and parents of the Covenant community are still carrying with them today.
Since then, Abby and other parents have continued to show up at the Tennessee State Capitol, sharing their stories and pushing for change, even when that effort has been met with inaction.
Behind her in this video is “Evelyn Wings,” an art piece honoring Evelyn Dieckhaus, one of six lives taken that day, alongside William Kinney and Hallie Scruggs, who were all just 9 years old, and Mike Hill, Katherine Koonce, and Cynthia Peak, who each played a role in caring for and supporting students.
Change doesn’t happen on its own. It happens because people refuse to stop pushing for it.
“Jackie is more than just a headline. She is our light and our life.” 💚💚💚
Congratulations to the entire team on their Oscar win!!

It’s time for our legislators to take a lesson in courage from eighth graders like Lydia and stand up to the gun lobby.
Another shooting that endangered and traumatized students, this time at a high school hockey game in Rhode Island. Two people were killed and at least three others were injured.
No student should ever be forced to run for their life. But this happens far too often.
Our hearts are with the community as we await more information.
Jackie Cazares was just 9 years old when she was killed while at elementary school in Uvalde, Texas, on May 24, 2022.
Since then, her family has left the lights on: pink and purple string lights that line the ceiling in her bedroom. “She loved the lights,” her mom, Gloria recalls in All the Empty Rooms while showing journalist and photographer Jackie’s room.
The short documentary follows an emotional, multi-year journey documenting the empty bedrooms of children lost to school shootings, laying bare the realities of forgotten families grappling with grief and loss.

It was a true privilege to sing “Jackie’s Rock,” together with Jazmin (), Jackie’s incredible older sister, at her final resting place. Jazmin joined me in studio for the recording of the song and we’ll be performing more together in the future. “Jackie’s Rock,” is one of 9 songs from “Witness,” my upcoming album inspired by my reporting and experiences behind the camera. Read the story behind the song and see the images on my previous post from last June. Join us in Austin at the Rollins Theatre at the on January 23 for the debut performance of “Witness.”

Golden State Warriors coach Steve Kerr called for gun reform after the shooting at Brown University.
