Okay Urbana, I genuinely need some advice from people who know more about commercial leasing/utilities than I do. For months, I have been dealing with insanely high electric bills through AES, so I finally had AES come out to investigate and apparently the meter associated with my unit does not actually control power to my space. 🙃 So now it appears there is some kind of incorrect meter assignment and/or wiring issue within the building itself. Our building manager said they are waiting for AES to contact them, but AES says that the landlord has to contact them (they have known since April 15th that there was a building issue with the meters). Meanwhile I'm looking at an insane electric balance and not sure how to move forward. 😅

Has anyone dealt with this before?
Who ultimately fixes it?
The utility company?
The building owner?
An electrician?
Does billing typically get adjusted afterward?
What happens while the issue is being investigated?

Even though there is an open case, they are still billing me each month that this continues. Thoughts?

After a lot of evaluation, we’ve made the decision to stop our storefront and walk-in hours at our Urbana location. Truthfully, we simply haven’t had enough consistent traffic to sustainably remain open for regular walk-in hours.

We’ll now be shifting Urbana into private bookings only which includes:

✨ Private Candle Making Groups (6 person min)
✨ Workshops & Creative Events (ticketed)
✨ Birthday Parties & Showers
✨ Private Venue Rentals

This isn’t goodbye to Urbana entirely (yet), but we are actively looking for someone to take over our lease through Urbana Tomorrow. So if you, or someone you know is interested, please reach out.
