Data Literacy is on a mission to help people learn the language of data and AI

22/06/2026

We're proud to announce a new partnership with New Jersey Institute of Technology.

We've been selected to deliver two multi-course data literacy programs for NJIT's microcredential learners. NJIT is a Top 40 U.S. public university (U.S. News & World Report) and has been building since 1881, so we're honored they chose us to help their learners make data make sense.

More to come as the programs roll out. If you want to build a stronger data and AI culture on your team, let's talk.

Today's the day! We're proud to share that Data Literacy Press has published "The Adaptive Organization: Leading Change in the AI Era" by Patrick McGarry.

The idea at the heart of it is that the gap between AI ambition and reality is more than just a technology problem. It's also - and PRIMARILY - an organizational one. You can't just keep buying more, fancy AI tools to close the gap.

A bit about the author: Patrick has spent his career advising leaders across the Defense, Civilian, and Intelligence communities, and now serves as Federal Chief Data Officer at ServiceNow.

In this book he gives executives the CATALOG Framework, a practical model for designing organizations that can absorb and apply data, analytics, and AI over time.

With a foreword by Douglas Laney and early praise from Ellen McCarthy, Sanjeev Mohan, Barr Moses, Brett Hurt, and others, this is a book for any CDO, CDAO, or CIO who's tired of watching strategy stall at the implementation cliff.

Available NOW in hardcover, paperback, and ebook. Congratulations, Patrick!

🎙️ A new episode just dropped on the Powered by Data Show. Host Ben Jones talks with Patrick McGarry, Federal Chief Data Officer at ServiceNow, about his new book The Adaptive Organization: Leading Change in the AI Era.

Patrick's argument: transformation rarely fails because the technology is wrong. It fails because organizations treat a human problem like a purely technical one.

The conversation gets into his CATALOG Framework, why governance is infrastructure rather than overhead, and the honest discussion most leaders are avoiding about AI and headcount.

The book launches June 8th and is available for pre-order now.

In this week’s episode of The Powered by Data Show, Ellie Fields of Ridge AI talks with host Ben Jones about how BI teams ended up with dashboard sprawl: where every new question generated yet another dashboard, until organizations had thousands and no clear sense of what to trust or use.

Her take: AI may finally give us a better way to handle that long-tail problem.

Are dashboards dead? Not exactly. But they do need help.

That’s exactly what Ellie and her Ridge AI co-founder Jeffrey Heer are working on. Ridge AI just emerged from stealth, announced its closed beta, and shared news of a $2.6 million pre-seed round led by Madrona.

We just launched the beta of "Data Foundations for AI" (DF4AI) a free self-assessment that helps you see whether your organization's data is actually ready for AI and AI agents.

It takes about 10 minutes (30 questions). You’ll get a readiness score plus a clear view of where you’re strong and where things may trip you up.

If you’re leading data, analytics, or IT and want a practical baseline before you scale pilots, we’d love your feedback.
